    Hi,

I recently discovered that my Vaio Z will go completely silent (the fan turns off ) after about 10 sec the HDD has turned off.. And, as soon as i click somewhere and the HDD is read again, the fan goes back on. (you can try this by defining the hdd to turn off after 1 min in the power management and closing as much processes as you can, then watch resource monitor for example, where you can see the disk usage)

I'm thinking of trying SSD which might probably keep the fan off completely on light tasks. What I'm wondering is.. How to change to SSD without losing warranty? Should i let some shop to do it for me? My first laptop so i have no idea about these kind of stuff..

Probably it's possible to ask Sony to change it for you, but not sure about the price and mainly I would be worried that someone else (without "love" ;)) is opening my Z. I exchanged it by myself...if you do it carefully, they can't find out that you opened the nb. And if you'll need warranty, you'll just put your old HDD back in...

As I wrote already many times in other threads I did many other tweaks as well...mainly disabling processes and so on. Right now I have completely silent laptop in Stamina mode under very light use (e.g typing in Word). Putting in SSD was the biggest change, but I believe it depends on type of SSD as well...how much power it needs and how much heat it produce. I don't thing I would find big difference with e.g. OCZ SSD. I'm still planning to do undervolting, when new version of CPUGenie will come out....hopefully after that the laptop will stay silent even under medium use..
