Anyone else getting the "not genuine" popup after some Windows updates from 2-3 days ago? I reinstalled Windows 7 Pro using the product key it shipped with using ABR to recover it, and it was fine for weeks and weeks. Then out of the blue it's saying "the Windows 7 Professional product key you typed is invalid for activation", and I have to either buy a new product key online, type a different product key, or contact Microsoft to help resolve this problem.

I suppose I'll just type in the key on the bottom but I suppose either way I'll have to contact Microsoft for their screwup.

EDIT: Entering the key on the bottom activated no problem, didn't have to contact MS. Just weird that the key it shipped installed with just now became invalid.

I have use ABR to restore the pre-activated key on a 5+ notebook when doing a clean install and i have not had any problem, did you use the ABRbeta version as it`s meant for Win7.

I just used it to view and copy down the key before reinstalling, I typed it in manually when doing the clean install. I'm guessing I was "doing it wrong".

I clean installed W7 x64 onto a VGN-Z (which came with Vista from factory), so no use of ABR.

    BUT
I have suffered the 'your Windows is not genuine' pop-up at boot up. ONCE, after an update. This was over 8 months ago, while I was booting up on STAMINA while using battery power. I would assume a process didn't start up (which checks for the authenticity of the key, which MS developed to get rid of the bootloaders).
The OS, when this happened, booted up and went into Windows as it always does, just with a threat telling me to buy genuine or it would delay OS boot ups in the future. The OS desktop was all black as well. I restarted and all was fine.

Haven't suffered the problem since though, and my W7 is genuine (got it off MSDNAA)

I have typed the key manually that ABR ripped, but i have received an invalid key notification, so then i used the ABR restore key and it worked fine after that, when you install Win7 and you get to the point where it asks you for a key, you dont have to enter one, you can just use the 30day trial , but as soon as i get into Win7 i use the ABR restore key and it activates fine.

    Simple activation method
    1. Install W7
    2. Copy Sony certificate to C directory
    3. Activate certificate SLMGR.VBS -ILC C:\Sony-Sony-2.1.XRM-MS
    4. Activate SN SLMGR.VBS -IPK H9M2............

I also used ABR and just updated win7 the other day and noticed that there was a KB971033 which is unchecked for updating by default even though its in the critical section. And the comment on it is: this updates activation technologies to detect exploits and tampering to windows files. -- Should I just never install this update?

Same for me. Even porting the preactivated OEM license from the stock Win7Pro install to a MSDNAA version of W7Pro worked like a charm. I used the beta of ABR with W7 support. What I noticed was, that both of my Z's had the same Product Key preactivated, so I think you could install the OEM license on as many computers you want.
