When I closed my notebook and lifted it up today, I noticed that the area of the lid cover near the battery was very warm, much hotter than any other area on the machine.

This is quite strange, because I've never experienced heat in this area on any other laptop before. It's usually the underbelly of the laptop that gets hot.

Edit: The heat is definitely not coming from the battery or chasis. It actually seems to be coming from the screen itself.

    Same happens on the SZ.
I believe it is comming from the lamps/electrics placed in the "lower" lid.

And I do belive my old Medion did the same.

However - there is a limit to how warm it may get on a non-faulty laptop.

Same will ALL Vaio's I have had in the past (FS, FZ and now SZ). This is like you said related to lamps/electronics, doesn't matter if it's dual lamp technology (like FZ) or LED backlit (like SZ) but nothing to fear about (at least I hope :))

    Cheers,
    Miki

Same in FW, though I think that single vs double lamp would and brightness settings would make a difference.
