My Vaio Z1 was working fine last night with no problems but when I turned the computer on this morning, the screen was messed up. The software is working fine so it's definitely a hardware issue. Is there any way to fix it or do I have to get it replaced? I think I still have some time left on my Squaretrade warranty as well. Here's a picture of the damage. It can be seen on any background and color.

Looks like hardware failure (LCD controller - inside the display panel). Get it fixed under the warranty NOW. The Z1 screen costs a bundle - I know, I just replaced mine.

Should I take out the Hard Drive caddy and put back the optical drive before I send it in?

Why are you even asking? It takes just a few minutes to do this. Who knows, they might decide to give you a new VAIO instead of repairing this one. ;)
