So i dunno how it happened but when i was in my car i had my vaio connected to my headunit through an audio cable. Somehow i accidently got it snagged from i guess some luggage putting pressure on where the plug of the cable meets the headphone jack. So it looks like it has scrapped one side of the inner hole. Now whenever i plug in headphones it won't work unless i jiggle it around to find a sweet spot, and when i do, sound will only come out from one side. It will also not mute the laptop speaker which makes it very frustrating when you want some privacy.

Now i'm hestitant to send it in sony warranty since i hear all the horror stories and the time it takes to get anything done. And i can't afford to let this laptop go for more than a few days. Is there a way i could replace this myself? I have no soldering skills nor know much about opening the laptop. Anyone know about the mechanics of the headphone jack, and whether it is replaceable?

Im willing to pay someone to fix it if someone is located in vancouver b.c. otherwise i'm open to suggestions. I really need this fixed!

    VPCZ1.pdf parts guide for the Z11 :p
Should be a sub board part A-1769-462-A (Depends on your exact model) though you would still need to find a sony part agent for pricing

Before you go through the effort of replacing it. Look in the hole with a flashlight. It could be just that the metal contacts are bent. If so, just bend them back out with a really thin jeweler's screwdriver.

yea it's pretty messed up. I somehow managed to tear a new one in the jack and there's no way of fixing it externally. So am i meant to just call sony and just say i would like to order part A-1769-462-A. I'm gonna try tomorrow but i feel like they will be asking me about my employee ID or something

Hmm doesn't seem to find the part A-1769-462-A. I didn't find that number in the service manual except for the prefix which was part of the wimax component.

From looking at page 2-1 it seems to be ANL-96 Board Side A. I'm getting confused what part to buy. My model is vpc-z1190x customized with core i5, wwan verizon, 4gb.

Yea that link and not even that part number works in any of those fields. That's odd, anyway i'm hoping it's the right part, since it looks to be part of the headphone jack, unless anyone else can comment/confirm?
