I don't know if the US Z12 has the same 1080p screen as the European version or not...

If anyone has received their Z12, can you tell me if you like the 1080p screen? Is it any better than the 1600x900 screen with respect to colors and viewing angles?

    Thanks.

from a youtube video i saw comparing the two screens (720 and 1080) the new one has better colors. Not sure about viewing angles though. I haven't gotten mine yet :)

Does anyone know if the 1080 screen will use more battery life? If so can you just reduce the screen resolution?

You're probably referring to this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPKZ2S_Jm-g&feature=related

I checked it out as well - kunkoku1 did a great comparison. The 1080p screen definitely looks sharper, and, if these two models had the same settings, then the 1080p screen also looks like it has more intense colors. Although I have to say that some of the pictures seemed to me to have a bit too much red in them (for example, at 3:34 and again at 3:46 in the video, the man's face on the 1080p screen looks sunburned)...but probably they can be adjusted.

I'd love to hear your impressions and see a couple of screenshots, if you would be so kind, when you receive your z.

Considering that the 1600x900 screen was already oversaturated, that might not be a good thing. At least not for photo work, where you want to see the colours as they will actually print, and not "vivid".

No, all Z models have TN displays. The 1920x1080 display has an 8-bit driver, which gives a somewhat better result than "pure" 6-bit displays. But it's still dithered for certain colours, and shows colour changes depending on the viewing angle like other TN displays.

True...Probably for serious photo work, one would need to calibrate the screen with some hardware solution or perhaps get an external IPS or PVA 8-bit panel.

But I still think Sony has a decent screen. I went to Best Buy a couple of days ago and compared it to the new Toshiba R705. I was not impressed at all with the screen on the R705.

What I find strange is that Sony USA doesnt mention the 96% Adobe RGB thing at all.
does this mean its not the same.
I hope this is not like the TPM case...because in that case they stopped mentioning it on the site, because it was not there.

This week, I spoke with folks from the US Sonystyle tech support and sales departments and no one had any information about the 96% Adobe RGB on the 1080p screen. I, too, question if this is an indicator that the US screen is different...
