Sonystyle.ca is listing the VPC1290 CTO with a base price of 1220.00 CAD or even lower at 1090.00 if you downgrade the cpu and ram. This is all at the expense of the full hd screen now listed as a 576.99 CAD upgrade. Someone obviously dropped the ball over at sony Canada as the last generation clearance models are still priced well above these marks. My recommendation is to take advantage of these prices while you can if you can.
In Light of the Shanhanigans on Sony's part, I see no point in wasting people's time with the link. I hope you took advantage of the deal before October 1st as many orders are apparently being cancelled >:|

WOW, good looks man.
TOo bad I paid full price for my z11!
My friends will buy these though they have been salivating over my Z since i got it. -
I ordered mine this morning
-
I ordered the clearance model a few days ago and paid more!!! Is it possible that I cancel the old one? It hasn't been shipped yet.
-
Yes you can still cancel it if it hasn't been shipped yet. Call customer support and they should be able to issue you a cancellation.
-
Thanks.. should I do this tho? The clearance model is out of stock and this sounds like too good of a price error to be true. I don't want to end up with nothing on Oct. 05 th lol...
-
you could try ordering and then calling to see if they'll really honor that price (or call beforehand). Seems they've had slight gaffes before where they canceled orders and handed out coupons as apologies instead, not to say that this isn't within the realm of possibilities.
-
Does anyone know 'for sure' what the new specs or difference on the Z13 will be?
Both Canada and USA showing the same savings when you max out a CTO.
To trigger a $700 price drop it has me wondering if the new Z13 is going have something new or amazing? Or is this how Sony does things?
Bear with me, I'm coming from a few years using Mac's
Thanks -
^Nothing amazing. just a processor refresh and a few more finish options
-
Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
Wow... this is ridiculous! 1.2k for a base model... that's as good as that MS deal that lasted like 2 hours for the Z11 on MS store here in the US...
-
uniquestco,
How exactly do we "max out" a CTO on the US website? Thanks. -
If you pick all the cheapest options, it's $1,090.00. Good deal.
-
Ooo this sounds pretty good! I might get a new one very soon! xD
-
I don't think it works on US site though
-
uniquestco seemed to indicate that "maxing out" in the US gets the discount.
I tried a couple of config's but couldn't get it. Maybe uniquestco can shed some light on it. -
I ordered one this afternoon. i5 520, 2GB, 128GB SSD, 1600 x 900, prem carbon fibre and large battery. It was $1220 + taxes. Sweet deal. It's cheaper to snap up another 2GB of RAM locally and if I want to upgrade the CPU, an i7 720QM is only ~$200 on eBay.
I've been looking forward to replacing my 4 year old A8Js and my wife's SZ680N didn't cut it. -
Just ordered my Z12, remarkable price !!
i5 / 540
8gb ram
512 ssd
Blue Ray
$2905.00 (cdn $)shipped
sony.ca -
Envy
In my country - they started to sell Z's out for $2944 - i5, 6GB ram, 128GB ssd, WVGA++ LCD, carbon fiber, standard battery.. -
1920x1080 screen is a $577 upgrade?
-
Expect your orders to be canceled as this happened to me for the 400$ discounted Z11 when the transition was taking place to the Z12.
-
If I remember correctly, wasn't that because the $400 dollar coupon was illegal? It was only up to 300$ off and people discovered that the 400 one also worked. There's nothing in this order that indicates that we were abusing any loopholes.
-
oh no, the price is real woo hoo
-
You might want to take note that the CPUs used in the 2010 VAIO Z notebooks are soldered onto the motherboards....
-
I was wondering why I haven't seen anyone upgrading the CPU while I was looking for disassembly information.
Oh well. The i5 520m should be sufficient for a couple of years. It's not like they were offering i7 quads anyways.
Just an odd side note. There was apparently a power outage at Sony Canada (or wherever they phone number leads to) yesterday, the day this deal popped up. They were closed when I called. -
Wow that is an awesome price, they even have the metal shield casing for the Z12 as option, in the US store that is in the signature series (non-custom model). Some options like the Full-HD display are really expensive.
-
I'm very tempted too. The next closest thing for us Canucks are the 3820TG, i3-420m, 500gb, 5650, for $750 + tax. For $300~ more, you get an SSD, a better screen(1366x768 vs 1600x900), a backlit keyboard, and I'm hoping a better build, though the 3820TG is quite a solid machine itself. Granted, I lose at least 3-4 hours of battery(it goes 6-7 hours easy).
-
The Acer 3820TG is not really a competition to the Vaio Z: Review Acer Aspire 3820TG Timeline X Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
terrible display (colors, brightness, contrast), glossy display, HM55 chipset. The only thing that is better in the Acer is the video card. -
Quick quesiton for Z12 @ sonystyle.ca, what kind of the video card comes with it?
-
All Z11, Z12 and presumable Z13 will have the 330m.
BTW, the 128GB option for the Z12 is now on backorder and the next option up, the 256GB option is an additional $350. Also, the Z13 is now available on the Canadian site. -
Thax for quick reply, on sonystyle.ca never shows the video card option in Customize.
-
Even tho i pick 13.1" VAIO Display (1600x900) still the 330m?
Is 13.1" VAIO Full HD Premium Display worth the 576.99? -
The entire line uses the 330m.
As for the 1080p option, before this clearance price, there was an error that picking the option made it $200 cheaper though I believe it's normally a $200 upgrade. -
You wont be able to upgrade to the 720qm. It uses the 45nm tech while the Sony motherboard supports only 32nm tech. You will only be able to upgrade to the i7-620m at the highest.
-
Thanks!
-
The 1080 display is overkill anyways, I wouldn't choose a 1080 display on the 13" screen.
-
Good point though none of that matters now that I finally realized it's soldered on instead of socketed.
I like the option to upgrade myself (took my wife's SZ680N from T7250 to T9300) but I'll live. -
This is almost too good to be true. I wonder what Sony's thinking.
-
Most likely will be canceled just like the $500 Vaio Y's.
-
Don't be such are party pooper.
We'll see in the next week or 2. -
They're probably thinking " yeah all those last gen models that would normally sit in a warehouse collecting dust just sold out"
-
I'm sure they made a fair amount of profit already so clearing all those soon-to-be-last-gen-models will make Sony happy. There's good margin on high-end products.
-
There's nothing last-gen about the Z12's except the name and minor CPU options.
-
Tell that to the general public who will buy anything with a higher model number.shurcooL said: ↑There's nothing last-gen about the Z12's except the name and minor CPU options.Click to expand...

Can someone please explain how to get these discounts on the US Sony Style site? I'm seeing regular prices starting near $2k. Or have I been reading this thread wrong?
-
It's on the Canadian site only. Bonus if you use Fatwallet to get 3% cash back.tjmaxwell said: ↑Can someone please explain how to get these discounts on the US Sony Style site? I'm seeing regular prices starting near $2k. Or have I been reading this thread wrong?Click to expand...

Do you guys think that their is a mistake and that they will change it soon? I am very close to pulling the trigger.
-
omg, this price is ridiculous!
I paid 190,000 yen for mine!
oh I see.
They're clearing the stock for 1600x900 displays.
The 1080p upgrade costs:
13.1" VAIO Full HD Premium Display (1920x1080) [add $576.99] -
Any updates? The base price is still listed at $1220.
Is it possible they're just trying to get rid of their 1600x900 panels _very_ quickly? :/ -
Got an e-mail to say that mine is being built.shurcooL said: ↑Any updates? The base price is still listed at $1220.

I'm wondering if they will really sell the Z13 only with Full-HD display (1920x1080), as it is at the moment on sonystyle.ca . If so, probably some potential Sony Vaio Z customers maybe buy a notebook form another manufacturer. I have a 1600x900 and I'm really glad I didn't buy the Full-HD one.
