All orders made after October 1st have apparently been cancelled. Orders made before Oct 1st are mostly still pending, and if you upgraded to the I7 and/or stuck with the 128gb ssd:
You're supposedly in the lousiest boat. [After those post Oct 1st people (Obviously)]
So here's your chance
~ Rant Aboot your underpriced Vaio Z12 order being cancelled by Sony Canada
~ Brag (politely, you're Canadian) aboot actually getting your new toy
~ [Non-Canadians] Gloat aboot how you knew it was too good to be true
(Of course you could do something positive like share any updates you receive)

Can you guess which category I fall into?
-
I'm going with #1.....

how did you know that???

JohnnyMayhou, you forgot to pepper your post with 'eh's in addition to 'aboot's

Yeah I've got the I7 and the 128 gigger, ordered Sept 24th.
It hasn't been cancelled as of yet, and considering I had planned on
waiting until 2011 to get my hands on some Sandy Bridge - action, I really
don't mind waiting. All things considered, I had/have nothing to lose though I might be too used to putting up with people's "shanhanigans".
Note: I spell shanhanigans exactly how i want to spell shanhanigans; the second "h" is not silent -
sorry to hear that. don't expect any dual core sandy bridge action until late february at the earliest.

Placed my order 9/27 on sonystyle.ca, original ship date 10/8, just received email today that production has started and expected ship date 10/28.
I'm in the US...but have friends in Canada.
i7-620M, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM, W7 Pro, $1,820 before taxes. -
Aw I read that entire thread and even posted a thread in the gaming section leting all know that the z12 was available in canada for 1099. So alot of them got canceled, sorry to hear this, better luck next time to those that it happened to.
-
I was lucky I ordered on the 24th and got it Oct 6th IIRC. -
Yep, cancelled. Those ****ing *******s at Sony.
They just called me, actually, some poor girls job right now is to call everyone who ordered it and say that due to "system error" they oversold them. Except this is exactly what people on this forum were expecting to happen well in advance....lol.
The only "consolation" is that I was offered a $250 discount on the Z1390s. But that's not good enough; that means they want me to *now* buy one of their laptops for $1750 when I'd ordered one at $1350.
After attempting to buy from HP, Lenovo, and now Sony, I guess I'll buy one of the new Macs that come out tomorrow -- because Apple is actually willing to sell products to their customers. :/ -
Also, it's a expected that Apple will launch an 11.6" MBA so I am not expecting a refresh of the rest of the Macbook line though I could be wrong. -
-
If Apple does their subnotebook right, it might well be what I consider as an alternative to the Sony. Although, I don't really know what to expect from their announcement.
I think "maybe I'll get a Lenovo, they seem cheaper" but then once I add in stuff like bluetooth, good battery, etc. suddenly it's price-comparable to a mac. Apple just doesn't sell things that are too cheap that the quality is as bad as many of their competitors. Sony's rather the same.
Then note that *noone else is willing to sell me a reasonable laptop*. I'm in Canada, and both HP and Lenovo only allow for customization to their US shoppers. Instead they offer mis-customized "preset" models at unaffordable prices. Often the models they show on their Canadian site will be a year or more old; and these are the ones that are sold in the big-box stores here as well.
After *trying* to buy Toshiba, HP, Lenovo, and now Sony, all of them failing to sell me a reasonably comparable product, I'm now down to looking at Apple. It's quite frustrating. -
Sorry to hear that. Here in the US Apple products are generally more expensive than reputable name counterparts, sometimes quite a bit more so.
-
It was a really strange sale. Looks like under 100 orders will be filled while another hundred will get canceled. That's really too bad. Sony as a whole did not handle this efficiently, likely poor communication and poor inventory control system between Japan and I assume US since the Canadian website looks like it's run by the US team now.
Rumours look like tomorrow's announcement will be an 11.6" and 13.3" MBA. If they can do the rumoured 1440 x 900 screen, full i5 CPU and a decent GPU on the 13.3" MBA, it can be a killer system.

i ordered mine on Sept 29th and its still under processing...called them and the guy asked me to cancel it and re-order the new z13 with $100 discount.
i'll rather wait another week or two and see....before i cancel on a good deal like this!! hopefully mine is one of the few that get through....

Check out this one, looks like it only lasted an hour or two and sounds like it was fraught with credit card verification troubles, but it was a VPCZ122GX/B for $824.45: Sony VAIO VPCZ122GX/B 128gb SSD Ultra light $824.45 - SlickDeals.net Forums

Nah, it just ran out of stock, system stopped accepting orders by refusing credit cards. Considering that MS store ran out of these a month ago at $1500 and stocked up Z133gxs just a week or two ago, this was probably a clearance on any returns they got from the last deal - otherwise where did they get Z122gxs again? I know I've sent one back because of issues I had with the screen (dead pixel), perfect otherwise
PS Canucks - eat your heart outYou ain't the only ones to get a good deal on the Z
although it was very brief lol

We ordered the z1290 on 27th and we were still waiting for update, we called today and told that our order will be fulfilled, but they don't have any idea about the shipping date and it seems to be the 1st or second week of November!!! Since we can not wait till then we choose to get the z1390 and get 250$ discount BUT the 250$ discount is not a coupon. We have to pay the full amount of the Z1390 and then Sony will send a refund on the credit card. Since we need the computer the fastest possible we took the chance, we received an email confirmation of our order of the z1390 with full price means our credit card will be charged full price, and 3 minutes after we received an email from Sony confirming the credit that it will be applied after the shipping I think.

Base config (i5-460m, 4GB, 256GB SSD, default 1080p) is $2016.99 - $400 = $1616.99.
Pretty good deal for a spanking new hot out of the oven Z13. It's still $400 more than my Z12 but the upgrades are worth it. -
That MS Store deal for <$900 is crazy (like Crazy Eddie, insane crazy.) I keep missing these quick deals. Oh well.
-
-
discount do you think they can manage to give me the discount difference to reach 400$ ? this in really not fair !!!
-
oh thank goodness they have a new deal!!!! it darn well better be combine-able with the $250 discount.
medwes: read their policy, somewhere in the agreement with the time I *tried* to get the 1290X, it says that they do 30-day price-adjustment-thingy whereby if they lower the price of the unit within 30days of your purchase then you get a rebate for that amount. look into it for sure!!
Edit: hmm I think I misunderstood; the price didn't drop, it's just that some people claim to be getting $400 off their 1390 purchase after Sony's cancellation? hmmm I'll be calling Sony tomorrow, I hate them jerking me around like this!!!!
Also note: the 1290 is still being sold in the U.S.A.!!! How can they claim they can't fulfill my order when they're still making new sales on exactly the machine I ordered, just a few km south!!!? -
-
-
Looks like a bunch of the $824 orders have been shipped... lucky SOBs

Wow, ok..
When Sony called me to tell me that my order had been cancelled, they said I'd get a $250 refund off a new one. I was pretty angry at the time; that amount barely covers tax on the more $$ive 1390.
However, I just called Sony to ask them about this, and without prompting, the guy said I am entitled to a discount of $400 off a new 1390 -- *plus tax* (on the discount amount). That is, $400 * 1.13 (HST in Ontario) => $452 discount. Quite a bit better than $250
So now I've ordered a 1390... whereas the 1290 I'd ordered was $1550 with tax and had 1600x900 screen, 2GB ram, and 2x64GB SSDs, my new 1390 totals $1880 and has 1920x1080 screen, 4GB ram, and 2x128GB SSDs.... (and a slightly worse processor on the new one). It's quite a bit more money but I suppose it's still worth it. Definitely couldn't have afforded the laptop without the discount.
The guy told me that I'll be charged for the full amount, and then *when the laptop ships* they'll automatically discount the $450 off my Visa. If/when I see that happen, I'll comment here. -
Oh, and it's also possible to get Z133gx from B&M MS store for $1150 with 40% coupon
