    Hi all,

I went down the upgrade path before seeing the warnings not to, and I see a lot of talk in the forum about the Z13, or Z1/2, but i'm not sure if the same info applied to this machine.

Machine was dead slow when installation was complete, with the fan running constantly, and the CPU showing 44% permanently....an issue with the display driver no doubt. Re-downloaded & installed the drivers from the Vaio Europe site i think and it works like a dream, but only when the machine is cold.

Now, after some 30 mins of use, it warms up, fans go mad, CPU goes up to 44% again and it slows to a crawl. All i have to do is close it up and let it sleep (& cool down) for a bit, then it's up and running again.

So other than only being able to do 30 mins of work at a time, it's a great upgrade i think! Would be a shame to go back to Win 7....can anyone suggest how i can solve this display driver issus (assuming that's what it is?)

    Thanks

Can you look in task manager and report what application(s) are causing the CPU to stick at 44%?

Sorry, should have mentioned originally, no running processes account for the 44%. Not even everything combined.

here are two screenshots...normal running, then the 44%...

What i've noticed is that once it reaches this 44% state, whatever the processes listed below it do, this number pretty much remains solidly at 44%....even if it does all add up to around 44%...It doesn't fluctuate like it does at 'normal' cpu levels. Any thoughts appreciated.

Have you checked the box for 'show processes from all users'?

IMHO the ONLY reason to upgrade (as opposed to a clean install) is to lock in your free upgrade to Win 10. Once you have done that, just do a clean install, formatting the C partition in the process. Follow the clean install guide (Win 7 or Win 8) to install the Sony drivers and utilities. Let Windows Update take care of the rest.

I seem to have figured it out for now. Something caught my eye just before the beginning of the end so to speak. It was a process related to malware...i guess some sort of search or update process which jumped into action, but seemingly made the CPU 'stick' at 44%. I've disabled all the Win10 malware bits & pieces and all seems fine.

I've no idea how that could be, and obviously I can't leave it like this. But it's a start, and it removes the display driver as a culprit. FYI in case anyone else has a similar issue....Thanks for your input anytimer.
