So I've been taking a look at the Vaio Z2 (curse you, gadget lust!), and have been completely confused by the Sony online configuration tool. I can take the customizable Z2 (VPCZ2290X CTO), add all the options provided by the Signature Collection Z (VPCZ21TGX/X) (fudging for the CPU and putting in a better one)... and it comes up cheaper ($2,620 versus $3,000). What am I missing?
Assumptions:
- i7-2640M
- Blu-ray player (not writer)

Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
maybe the lid color? and sometimes nothing at all
. Get the cheaper one if nothing is different.

Yeah, I was checking the forum to see if there were any posts I missed. The only thing [thread=626453]this thread[/thread] adds is, in fact, the lid colour. Yeesh. Pay more, get less. I know that Sony occasionally makes some wonky decisions, but... please!

Well, the $3k signature edition has been on sale at Microsoft for ~$2300 twice now. Would be $300 less than a custom order. There is a benefit to having the Sig. Edit. selling at retailers.

The specs on the Sig Z22 are what happens when marketing runs amuck. From a tremendously narrow view, it makes perfect sense, there's the high-end Signature (for some reason only available for the Z21) with every spec maxed out and then they offered a more affordable cutdown with specs between maxed out and baseline. Which means selling a $3k notebook (list) with 6GB RAM.

Yeah, but that means that the people in marketing completely ignored their own price sheet. Brilliant, I tell you.
I ended up picking up one from the MS Store by me (yay 25% off); I'll likely keep the system if I can manage to sell off the system I bought back in May for a decent price...
