So, I am starting to look at getting myself a Z2.
I've so far found out that models that best match what I need are named VPC-Z22AGX/B in US or VPC-Z228GG in Hong Kong: i7 CPU, 8GB RAM, at least 256GB SSD, full HD panel, barebones PMD.
However, I'd prefer a Carbon Indigo version, and there is no Z22AGX/L that I can find, so I wonder if anyone has a complete world-wide list of Z2 model names with their basic specs (memory, SSD, screen resolution, color, WWAN).
(The problem is that searching for VPC-Z2 on most shopping sites returns nothing or configurations I don't care about, but then searching for the exact model actually gives you the option)

Buying directly from your country's Sony site should give you the option to configure it completely. The model numbers don't mean much in that regard
-
As an example of what Jebba suggests, here is what I ordered:
Carbon Fibre Black
Power Media Dock with AMD Radeon HD 6650M (1GB) graphics and Blu-ray disc player / burner
Intel® Core i7-2640M processor (2.80GHz) with Turbo Boost up to 3.40GHz
Microsoft Windows® 7 Professional
256GB (128GB x2) solid state drive with RAID 0
8GB (4GB x2 fixed onboard) DDR3-SDRAM-1333
13.1" VAIO Full HD Premium Display (1920x1080) -
That's very well and nice except that there is no Sony web site in my country offering Vaio configuration. It doesn't list any computers among the products (go to sony.rs, click on "Proizvodi").
Thanks nevertheless, hopefully I can get a few more model names that I can easily search for while I am abroad. -

What about sending an email to Sony's Serbian office. If you ask for a CTO built laptop in this price category, I'll think they can help you out
A buddy of mine did more or less the same when he wanted certain pretty high end speakers for his stereo in a color that wasn't available in China. The company HQ sent them over from England to his local dealer, while the dealer couldn't arrange it themselves. -
US CTO stopped offering indigo option when Z2290X came along I think. If you want indigo you have to go for some Z21 in US.
Where exactly do you plan to purchase from? If your country's official Sony store does not offer indigo with the configuration you want, are you going to purchase from somewhere else? If so, is there importer that can bring you Japanese CTO ones? They always have all the options. -
vpc-z216 has all the specs that you want except 8gb ram and wwan. It is carbon indigo blue. Great choice by the way. It really is a nice colour. I have always had the premium carbon versions of the vaio z so having new colours to choose from this time around in the z2 was refreshing. You'll love it. As for ther ram, it seems like you can upgrade it according to what has been discussed in other threads. The z216 is not hard to find online.

Sony Serbia doesn't seem to even have any computers on offer, and I doubt that they'd be importing them. And even if I am willing to spend >2000€ on a laptop, I am pretty sure they would ask for closer to 3000 if they'd offer the option. I will ring them just in case, so thanks for that suggestion.
As for color, I want to change from premium carbon black as well, and indigo looks just right: not too flashy, and definitely not boring
As for upgrading RAM, it will be non-trivial to get the upgrade around here as well, so I'd rather have it preconfigured with at least 6gb to start.
And finally, I want to buy it from anywhere that will accept credit cards/bank transfer and will ship to Serbia (no Paypal for me either). I am probably going to visit US later this year, and I'll be in Hong Kong in a few weeks, but shops usually have a very limited set of models on offer (and the one that might satisfy my requirements might have a blueray recorder which I don't care about at all, and don't want to pay for). -
I think doing a Japanese CTO with a exporter would be your only bet to get the exact specs you wanted.

Yeah, looking at that, pricejapan seems to offer much better prices for Sony laptops (i.e. whatever Sony Style Japan quotes you).
