I notice that fonts are A LOT smoother and pictures are A LOT better when viewed in Apple screen. Why? Is it because of the screen quality or because of the way OSX handles the rendering, IPS, or whatever it's called?
I am not Apple user, but I'm looking for comparable screen and curious if the screen on Z2 is equal or possibly better than Apple? Z2 owner, please provide your feedback.

The only difference is font rendering.
Try Safari for Windows, it has the OSX-style font rendering. Then compare the display of the Z with that of a Macbook. -
lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
What a difference! Who knew? Doesn't the rendering also apply to other apps?

^Do you have MS Cleartype on?
-
If you want to compare screen quality, the best would be you put same image (some hi res picture or wallpaper) on both screens. Then you can see color reproduction, saturation, if black is really black....You would also be able to see if specific screen has some sort of hue/tint like blue(ish), red(ish)...
Of course, to do this you have to have both computers side by side.
Some time ago I did this with my VGN-Z and Toshiba Portege 830 - striking difference.
As for fonts, like beaups said, you should check if Cleartype is ON, as it make all fonts look smooth, not jerky.
Cheers,

Also, which Crapbook screen are we talking about?
The glare-o-matic screen or the matte? The Z, with its semi-matte screen might look more washed out to many.
As for font rendering?
Well - in a more like for like comparison, I'll invite you to guess which is the Air and which is the lower-res (i.e. 1600) Z, the machine I have to hand right now. Windows running Chrome, Mac running Safari.
Oh, PSA: You can find the Cleartype Tuner under Display in the Windows 7 Control Panel. If in doubt type in Cleartype in the Control Panel search and it should be the top hit.Attached Files:

Are there any prizes for correct guesses?
Anyway, I'll take a guess. The one on the left (screen-1.jpg) is the VAIO Z, the one on right (screen-2.jpg) is the MacBook Air. -
My guess is MBA is on the left, since the color temp is all jacked up on the photo on the right (Z-ish)
-
Could be the camera's fault, however, expecially if it tries to auto white balance off a monitor.
-
^It's just a little dig, but the colortemp on both of my Z2's definitely have a green push in most lighting. It sorta drives me nuts.
-
I guess the left one is Z as well. The color stripes look like the coating on Z when I take picture of my Z...
-
im with jj, air is on the right
-
Air on the right.
Look at the word "act". Notice the even spacing of the letters of the example on the right and the unequal spacing of the example on the left. Textbook example of the differences between the two operating systems. -
That's my take.

I owned 3 vaio Z and 1 MBP 13 (2009) and 1 MBA 11 (2010). I am an Apple fan and would not buy Z2 if there was a macbook screen close in color gamut and contrast to Z. After some adjustments (default brightness is too high) the screen on Z is just perfect. MBA and MBP both look washed out in comparison even after calibrations or installing windows. I would pay somebody to put screen from my broken Z720 in MBA 13 but its probably impossible.
But then if you are looking for smoothness, maybe you do want a screen with lower contrast or operating system with different way to render fonts. -
Left side is Z
Vaio Z2 screen - equal/better than Macbook Pro screen
