Unfortunately, I have 3 problems with the screen of my Z2.

I have had the Z2 since December and I always babied it and handled it with perfect care, I always transported it in a laptop bag, placed the microfiber cloth between the screen and the keyboard, etc. This makes the following issues even more annoying.

    • A few days ago I noticed 2 bright spots on my screen. They are most visible on a white background and when watching the screen from the sides or the top.
I attached 2 photos. I took them with my phone and it was hard to capture the spots. In person they are more visible than that.
Do you have any idea what those spots are and what the reason could be that they appeared?

    • I have keyboard marks on my screen, despite that I have always placed the microfiber cloth between the screen and the keyboard. They are quite visible when the screen is turned off or with a dark background, and are really hard to wipe off just with the microfiber cloth.

    • Twice, I had a strange issue, that the screen became really bright and the colors were washed out. The first time, I reduced the brightness to minimum and then increased it again and it got back to normal. The second time I think it fixed itself within 2-3 seconds. During the 6 months of ownership I experienced this only twice.
Do you know what this can be?

Thanks for your replies in advance!

Try check Intel GPU settings and disable Intel DPST. Example: techieNetizen's Web Log: XPS 15z: Screen brightness flicker/dim on battery by Intel "Display Power Saving Technology" The blog says slide it to the left, but I would recommend try disable it outright.

Thanks, maybe this was the reason for the issue with the bright and washed out screen, because now I remembered (at least I'm almost sure) that it happened while the laptop was on battery.

Does anyone have an idea about the problem with the bright spots? What could have caused it? Will it get worse with time?

I guess the only solution is to take the laptop to Sony and let them put in a new display. I wanted to avoid giving my laptop to Sony.

    Thanks!

About the bright spots, it looks that it results from some pressure applied to the screen, despite your care.
Go toughbook ! And good luck with Sony customers service...

Yes, this is what I thought first, but I just can't think of any situation, where it could have been pressed, especially not so strong. The screen itself surely not and the closed lid maybe somehow while the laptop was in the padded laptop bag, but that should not cause screen damage.
    Anyway, thanks for you reply!

Has anyone else had such a problem?

    Thanks!
Did you do anything about the bruises? Did you talk to Sony about the issue? Will Sony change the panel in such a case?

I noticed it long past the warranty end date, but I heard someone did get sony to replace the panel. it didnt bother me as you could only see it if you looked at it at an angle and by then the screen was washed out (poor viewing angles).

I also wouldn't do it because i'd be away from my Z, although you should certainly try if it bothers you :)

My Z2, has a bright spot exactly in the same area of the lowest one of your laptop. It's bothering me quite a lot.
Just like you did, I've always been very carefull and everytime I need to take it with me, I put a microfiber tissue between keyboard and screen.
Yet small line on the keyboard appeared.
And my Z2 screen was just poorly adjusted :/ compared to my VPC-Z1. But now it is great but I do not like using color profile.

    Thanks for the replies!

The bruises bother me, but for now I won't let Sony change my screen, because after reading here in the forum about the Sony service experience I'm afraid that they'll just cause more problems.
I plan on using this laptop for a long time, so I'll buy the extended warranty from Sony and I'll take the laptop to them shortly before my warranty expires.

I have Sony Vaio Z1 for a year. To prevent screen bruising, I use Steinheil SQ screen protector and carbon fiber case from Mach 3 Composites. My screen looks like new, it still in pristine condition, no scratches or bruising. Steinheil never produces screen protectors for Sony Vaio Z2, but I think you can use the one for Sony Vaio Z1, because both of them have the same screen size. Carbon fiber case is strong enough to hold external pressure. This is the link for Sony Vaio Z2 carbon fiber case: Carbon Fiber Sony Vaio VPC-Z2 Case | Mach 3 Composites

I had those too, I had them replaced out of warranty with my Credit Card coverage. I have actually notice it again on my new panel and will have to live with it now.
As for the oversaturation problem it was due to the intel card.
