    Hi,

on my Z4 with 1600x900 Premium display I can only choose a max. screen resolution of 1366x768. There is no difference in that between Vista and Win7. It's the same in Speed- and Stamina- Mode.

I installed the latest drivers of the Vaio Support Page.

Any ideas what could be the problem?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards
    Christoph

    It was a dream? ;)

    There's no such thing as a Z4.

Of course there was. The NB is from 2009. It's called VGN-Z45/X.
    No dream ...

It is an old(ish) model - did this happen recently or was it like that from the beginning?

I bought it last week 2nd hand.
It was reset to factory settings (Vista - max. resolution: 1366x768). I updated to Win 7 - max. resolution 1366x768 ...
On the original bill the display was listed as 1600x900.

    Thanks for your help.

There are utilities that read the EDID from the display and report its capabilities. Can you try that and see if the display you got really supports 1600x900? Maybe the previous owner replaced it with one with a lower resolution.

I couldn't find actual VG-Z45/X specifications, but I found similar Z45 from Sony site.
As anytimer said, the LCD could be replaced by previous owner, and seller wasn't aware that change.
Otherwise, your model came with 1366x768 LCD originally and it was a typo on bill or description.

    I installed a "hardware information software" ...

The display is a "SONY t flat panel" with a max. resolution of 1600x1200 (13.0'').
The software recommends to install a display driver.

Unfortunately, I cannot find a display driver on the Sony Support site. I installed the latest driver for the graphics card, but this does not seem to be the solution.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your help.

You can download and install any driver for VGN-Z graphics cards. Remember to use model.txt file mod by modify model name in text file to match the model you downloaded from.

Which graphics adapter does this have? Try creating a custom resolution.

How can I create a custom resolution?
The 1600x900 display was a customer option in 2009. The standard display was a 1366x768. It seems I have to "explain" the software that it's a 1600x900 display. But how can I do it?

I tried the latest driver from NVidia site (not from Sony), but during installation the message "no supported hardware was found" was displayed.

Would a modification of the registry be an idea?

    Thanks again
    Christoph

So far, your information is not consistent.
    This ...
    makes me confused.
Give us a screen shot or a picture of device management showing graphics driver.
Also download and run HWInfo and show us Monitor section expanded.
You can't use driver directly from nvidia. It won't install on your laptop.
Just go to Sony support site and download graphics driver for VGN-Z model to install it.

In Sandra, max 1600x1200 is for external monitor.
Both HWInfo and Sandra report your LCD is 1366x768.
    Driver is also OK.
Then, your laptop is 1366x768, not 1600x900. Either it's typo on bill or has been replaced.

No typo - on the original box the display is described as 13.1'' / 1600x900. The serial numbers on box and notebook are identical ...
Perhaps replacement ... I have to ask the guy I bought it from.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Kind regards
    Christoph
