Hope someone can help, this week i had to do a full restore from the discs i made when i got my z5.

All working ok except my 256GB raided SSD it came with is now 300 read and 50 write ! write used to be near the read speed.

Anyone shed some light on what i need to do/look for as i've exhausted the few things i know of

    Thanks

degradation? But probably not that drastic. Where are you getting that speed from? (CrystalDiskMark? etc?) Uhh, did you download the Intel RST? (<-- maybe that's the problem?).

crystaldiskmark and as ssd read roughly the same, just over 300 read and 50 ish write

i think so, i started with what the recovery discs put in, now i have rst 9.6.0.1014

i read about ahci etc but cant see how you would change it in the bios ?

Hmm that should be fine... that's weird though... does the RST say that the drives are in RAID? I've got the VPC-Z so i'm not sure how the VGN-Z Bios works. Anyone else got an idea?

Being that it is an SSD & the fact that it is being used for quite a while, I would think that doing a "secure erase" of the SSD is needed before doing a re-install of the system in order to bring it up to the speed (or close to it) of when the notebook is first powered on straight from the factory.

Please kindly correct me if I'm wrong.

    Good luck. :)

Secure erase with a RAID0 setup I would assume involves you to do a full format, or even go as far as breaking the RAID0 setup and rebuilding it from scratch.

I'm curious, but have you tried a clean install? Using all the latest W7 drivers from Sony? I would assume the VGN-Z5 already comes with W7, but try using the drivers found here (search for guides to clean-installing W7 on a VGN-Z).

I ran the recovery dvd's i made after purchase which did a clean install, there wasn't a lot of choice option wise, don't know what it did ref format maybe i should have formatted the drives before i ran the disc ? :(

All the drivers where installed on first boot with the same ones i had when i purchased it and it was quick then ? the only one i have now changed is to the latest intel rst.
