I'm going to pull the trigger and buy me a vaio Z590 from P1.

I'm considering the P8600 with 320GB HDD to the T9500 with 200GB HDD. Only $50 difference with the T9500 being the more expensive one, shouldn't be a problem for me..

Mainly I'm going to use this laptop for word processing, some pics/video editing and watch a lot of HD movies. And probably some gaming too, but I'm not a hardcore gamer myself.

So, what do you guys think is the better value of these 2 offer? I mean in term of speed am I going to see a lot of difference between the 2 processor?

PS: also from P1 it says in the configuration option I could downgrade to XP and also fresh start (add 48 hours, do you guys know what does it mean?)

    Thanks!

T9500 FTW! It is a better processor (more L2 cache) BUT it will use more power (TDP for P-series is 25W, while TDP for the T-series is 35W).

As far as HDD, I have yet to fill my 120GB drive, so 200GB would be plenty (for me at least).

You sure it is the T9500 (FSB: 800MHz) ? (Link ?)

    The P8600 will run cooler.

HDD and RAM can be upgraded easily by the user.

I'd get the P processor. It will run (almost) as fast 99% of the time, and it will use less power and output less heat.

    did you mean P9500?
i would go with the P9500, just for a peace of mind in case you want to upgrade your laptop later..

I decided to go with P8600 + 320 GB 7200 RPM from P1. Just ordered Friday. I think the processor difference will largely go unnoticed unless you really run compute-intensive applications like scientific computing. I suppose some effects in Photoshop and video editing programs may hit the CPU fairly hard. Bigger, faster hard drive will be better for storing all those HD movies.

    Well, it IS the P9500 (I don't think you can get a Z with a T-series proc).

That, to me, is the best option at processor. I wonder why Sony didn't use the SP-series? Those use even less power and have the full 6MB of L2 cache....

Anyway, that was my mistake above....

Hey guys thanks for the reply, and yeah it's P9500 instead of T9500 (sorry my bad!)

P8600 will run cooler? Can anybody confirm this?

I still can't decide whether to buy the P9500 or P8600 one :(

and about P1's policy (add 48 hours for downgrading to XP and bloatware removal) does anyone have any experience with them as to what does "add 48 hours" mean?

If it was my choice, I would go with the P9500. It is a very good processor.

As far as P1, I have no experience with them at all. I don't know if I would buy something from them. I have heard good reports, but I don't like the fact that they customize Sony laptops. Just doesn't seem right (to me, at least).

Please do let us know how the buying experience goes from P1, though....
