Thinking about ordering a Z590 CTO, courtesy of Dell dragging its dude-you're-getting-a-possession-charge feet on the Montevina platform in an XPS notebook. And because it's a Z590.

    Questions:

    1. Does Sony, like Dell, offer 64-bit Vista Ultimate discs to its customers free of charge?

    2. Given that I'd be going for Ultimate over Business (and thus, can't order "Fresh Start"), any little tricks to a clean install, or ought I just uninstall all the bloatware and go with that?

    3. I've already got a 10% discount via their university staff/student offer, and they're apparently running a little promo on certain hardware upgrades (excluding hard drives, notably). Anything I should know about maybe just ordering a 500 GB notebook drive from Newegg and installing on that?

    4. Any other discounts of which I'm unaware? With tax and free shipping, I'm running just north of $2,000 on this order -- and that's with a 160 GB drive. Would love to knock that down a bit.

Check Amazon.com frequently, their price variations quite a few times - A sony reseller like PortableOne or PCnation also gets you more bang for less buck.

PortableOne has great deals on the Z590. I got mine there and actually got more laptop for the same price, and I was getting a student discount too. (more HD and more RAM for same price) So I recommend checking them out.
