It seems for some reason my Z690 does not work well in the speed setting. This results into videos that seem to refresh a lot, games that are slow and have jagged edges and in general slow video performance.

Whats funny is that on stamina setting, all my graphics actually do quite well. Videos play fine as do the games /w smooth edges.

Need some help figuring what the issue might be. Funny thing being that with the intel graphics chip gives me better perofrmance than the nvidia one...

    Thanks.

It is normal. It's not really 59 Hz, but 59.94, or 2*29.97 interlaced. This is the setting you should use when watching NTSC video, to avoid a doubling of every 1000th half-frame.
Newer progressive video formats are locked to true 60 Hz, so for most high-res content, you should pick 60 Hz to avoid dropped frames.

For everyday computer use, it doesn't matter which one of the two you pick, and even for video, most people will never notice the difference.

I am seriously running out of options. Have tried everything including reinstalling the vaio nvidia/intel hybrid driver from sony's support section. Are there any advanced settings for speed/stamina? I could try to edit the settings there in hopes that it works.

Did you try setting the Power Options to High Performance?

I did try putting it on high performance. Seems like the issue is the nvidia graphics card. I have eliminated everything else since it works fine in the stamina setting. Even simple 2d games show jagged edges and slow to zero HW acceleration.

Also - the laptop screen is detected as generic pnp monitor - is this normal?

When did this start happening? It maybe a graphics card issue or just a simple driver issue.
