I downloaded all win 7 drivers, and I'm ready for a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64b on my Vaio. I wonder whether it would be wise to first install the bios upgrade for Win 7, version R4041M3, before I start the OS installation? Thanks for your help!!

The correct BIOS for Windows 7 would be the R4043. I have Z31WN European version and I also use R4043, should be on the same page where all the Windows 7 drivers are. It would be better to upgrade your BIOS first before upgrading to Windows 7.

You need R4043 to have NVIDIA driver working properly in Windows 7. I updated BIOS to R4043 after installing Windows 7 Pro x64 (Ultimate is a waste for me but I do need to be able to host Remote Desktop and I need XP mode, hence Professional version) but before installing NVIDIA driver. While booting before installation I pressed F1 (worked in older BIOS) to get boot device selection menu and chose my DVD drive instead of default ACPI entry. This is a mandatory step to have Windows 7 install on non GPT hard drive structure and to avoid blue-screens with Windows 7. That's what worked for me. I have Z690Y.
