Hi there, I have a Vaio PCG-V505GP Sony Vaio purchased here in New Zealand ca 2 years ago. It has Win XP Pro. A few days ago, my dialup modem stopped making any sounds. I can no longer hear the connection occurring, but the modem still works.

In Device Manager -> Modems -> CXT AC-Link Modem for Intel -> Properties the speaker volume slider is definitely ON.

I can hear other sounds normally.

I tried to update drivers using the same CXT AC-Link Modem for Intel -> Properties -> Driver -> Update driver, but it said that my driver is up-to-date.

I found this page on Sony's website and downloaded the driver version 7.04.01. However after trying to install it, I got a message "Failed to install".

In Device Manager - modem properties, I see that the drivers on my laptop are still version 6.1.18.0.

I uninstalled the modem, restarted and waited for the modem to reinstall itself.

Now, I am back to square one: the modem works but is 100% silent.

    Any other ideas?
