Hello Guys... Here's the deal:
I have a 12'' sony vaio with a 16V power adapter. My battery is not good anymore, it was not even holding for 20Min, but my problem now is that the computer does not turn on without the battery at all. I have to leave it charging for hours, then it will go on, but in the middle of the windows loading process it shuts down and does not show any signs of life until you leave it charging for another hour. The voltage output out of the power supply shows 14.70 ~ 15.20 never gets to 16V. Now, comes the questions...
This particular laptop needs a good battery to " buffer" power and the AC adapter only charges the battery but does not have enough Amps to run the computer without the battery?
or
Do i have a Bad power adapter that is not even charging the battery properly?
or
Bad power supply and battery?
Thank you so much. I dont know if I buy a new battery or a new power supply.
PS: I purchased a made in china ebay battery that made the computer work fine for 2 months, but with a very short battery life. maybe i was just unlucky with the cheap battery, maybe the problem really is the ac adapter not charging...

Probably not enough voltage to charge.
Also, you have a bad battery -
You can have your original Sony battery rebuilt.

buy a power adapter on ebay around 20.00 bucks. or see if someone lets you borrow one

Resolved. Battery is Bad indeed, but the culprit was the power adapter. Bought an universal power adapter , set it to 16V, and problem solved. at least it is working on the AC now. Battery still lasts 5 minutes. i will leave it charging with the good ac adapter overnight to see if it helps
Vaio does not turn on without battery, bad power supply?
