    Vaio notebook model number: PCG-VX89

Trying to install OS with external CD/DVD drive to no avail. Have done everything possible including:
    -tried 3 different externals drives
-attempted BIOS BOOT ORDER: BOOT FROM CD/DVD and tried REMOVABLE DEVICE setting
-attemped 'esc' one time BOOT ORDER at startup...attempted both CD/DVD and REMOVABLE DEVICE

System doesnt recognize EXTERNAL CD/DVD in BIOS....only in WINDOWS..after machine fully starts up. Looked for any kind of UPDATE for DRIVERS OR BIOS on SONY SUPPORT for this model...there is none.

Any and all replies are greatly appreciated.

Did a search online to see what your laptop specs are....
Your laptop does not appear to have a PCMCIA port or internal CD/DVD ROM so the only way to load a fresh OS is by having a bootable USB flash drive or USB DVD/CD ROM.

Do you know whether the CD or DVD disc you are using to load the new OS has a executable file to start the setup and boot process...??
If not... then the laptop will not boot to the disc....

    w/ means? Without???

My SZ has a dedicated BIOS option that says "enable external drive boot" - check if you have something like that.
