I used the Vaio Recovery Utility to reinstall factory installed programs.

A message came up: "Click OK to start the application recovery. If you do not perform the application recovery, your computer may become unstable. Make sure you complete this process now.

However, after clicking "OK" I got the following error message:

    "An environment error occurred. (ErrorCode=208)."

The computer operates OK except some programs aren't installed - Roxio being one of them.

I made a recovery disc and have checked the original drivers on the Sony website and it seems I have everything.

How do I install Roxio Digitalmedia SE 7?

What file do I need to open to set it up?

Are you sure you need Roxio? It's always running in the background. Quite annoying, considered it's rarely needed (for me at least).

I want to burn some DVD's and Roxio is the programme that came with the laptop.

If it's always running in the background how do I access it?

Once it's installed, it's always running in the background (licensing cr@p). So, you cannot install it from VAIO Care, cuz you get the error, right?

Have you tried to install it from VAIO Care? You can go into Restore or Recover, one of those two, then ReInstall Drivers and Applications. Roxio should be listed in there.

No, dunno what Vaio care is. I've been to the Sony site, checked the drivers for my laptop and I have them all.

I have made a recovery disc and I have the recovery utility on the hard drive, I've searched all the drivers, applications and did a C drive and disc search for the word Roxio - nada!

I'm thinking it's hidden in there somewhere.

Press the ASSIST button to open VAIO Care. If VC is not installed, then go to your support site and download it. Wait, which VAIO do you have?

Anyway, in VAIO Care, if it's available for your machine, you can install any or all of the bloatware that comes with your lappy.

Oh, that's not as thorough as the US sites. So, you originally had Roxio before your reinstall, correct?

Hmmmm... I'm at a loss in helping you recover that program. :(

Yes, I had the Sony mastering studio, Roxio and I think I also had DV Gate all disappeared after the re-install.

Did you try running the recovery utility from the your recovery disks and installing the app that way? I may be mistaken but it sounded like you didn't use the disks the time you got the error so maybe you could get it to work without the error that way if you haven't already tried. I'm not sure how your recovery disks works since I have a different laptop. From my recovery disks, I can run Vaio Care (I know you don't have this but that is simply a program which contains the same recovery utility that you have), and then I can click on recovery and click on re-install apps and drivers and choose what apps to download. So, minus the Vaio Care step, does your recovery disk either automatically bring up the recovery utility with the re-install apps option, or if not, you may be able to see an .exe file (likely on the first disk) that will run it?

If your recovery disks don't provide an obvious way to run the recovery utility and reinstall your apps, the positive news is that the program does have to be on your recovery disks somewhere. In order for the disks to be able to perform a factory restore, all the programs that came with your computer have to be on those disks. The reason you can't find it by name is because it will need to be extracted from a compressed file that likely has no obvious name (maybe a random combination of letters and numbers). There will be many files like this. So you would have to have some patience and extract all the files on your disks until you found it. Even after extracting, it may or may not come up by name. There may just be generic setup or install programs that you will have to run to see which program it is trying to install. Like I said, I have a different computer and different recovery disks so I can't be of specific help with that.

Yes, I made a recovery disc and have to recover from this disc.

I cannot do it from my laptop as the recovery partition has been deleted.

I get the error when I try to install the apps from the disc.
