    Hi,
I actually hesitate to buy a Vaio serie z ( Z Series : VAIO & computing : Sony ) responding to all my needs but i read people who says the Cpu' fans are very noisy...It's a real problem for me, now i have a Asus UX31E and it is a real model of silence.

I know Sony have recently updated their serie Z (Ivy bridge) but apparently, this is the only changement...

Does exist a solution for this probleme or is still relevant ? This is very dommageable, except that this is the perfect ultrabook..

    Thanks for your helps.

    It's not an ultrabook.
It has a real CPU that will do real work and generate real heat requiring a fan to dissipate it.
When you don't ask much of it it'll be quiet.
When you ask a lot of it it will generate noise.
You could of course limit the power state to minimise noise if you wish.

Yes, but you can agree it have all of the caracteristique of an ultrabook :very light, very thin, with a good battery life and without CG (Obviously without the dock) and ..very expensensive. Of course, with a powerful processor, when we said at home on ne peut pas avoir le beurre et l' argent du beurre.

Thank you for your clarification ;)

It is more than an ultrabook. Because it did not use the low voltage cpu, it need a noisy fan ...to keep it cool down...lol
Anyway, for daily use, its quite quiet.
I need to point out something:
    1. the key board has very limited key distance, so it will be tired for writing a long draft.
    2. the ivy Z will give u :
    a. less hot cpu...
    b. more powerful video card in the PMD.

So if you dont care about the ivy, microsoft store has a perfect one for 2299, even better deal than $500 price drop from store.sony.com.

Thanks for the deal but apparently, it is not accessible from France, it appears just from UK.

I think i ll try with a occasion' laptot , if i' m convinced i think take a full option (ssd 512, dock, battery, etc...) I am fortunate to benefit of a reduc for student (8 %) so it is not negligible.

in silent mode it is absolutely silent

The new PMD is not faster, the graphics chip is the same, just with a new name.

    Vous avez absolument raison.
I'm sitting in bed surfing and my Z22 is silent.
If I ask it to batch process some images though then my 3yr old daughter asks why it sounds like a plane is taking off...

You must be mixing up Vaio VPC-Z1 (2010, early 2011, or VGN-Z from 2009) which had an integrated nvidia-GPU. Since mid-2011, Sony Vaio VPC-Z2 comes with ATI cards, and the PMD coming with SVZ13 should be mostly the same one.

    I made a mistake.

But the Z2 comes with 6650M, and new Z with ivy comes with 7670M. Thats for sure an update.

actually it doesn't make any noise at all for some normal web-browsing and stuff. and you can always choose the silent profile to make it more quiet.

Exact same chip? Not updated to AMD's latest chip?

In any case, according to notebookcheck's mobile gpu list (which i use for a baseline, quick comparison) the two chips are quite comparable:

I'll be one of those people waiting on the Z4
