    Vaio sound problem caused by firmware?

    No sound is being played with video.

    WMP will not play music and states, "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

    The external sound controls do not seem to be recognized by the computer.

    Spoke with Sony and was told if it is not a driver problem then probably firmware.

    Any help or direction to fix the problem would be gretly appreciated.
