My laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-FS115B. When I bought it 4 years ago the operating system was all in German until yesterday when I decided to change it into English. A friend installed me XP Professional, 2002, Pack 3 which naturally resulted to the cancellation of the entire Vaio system (VAIO Zone, VAIO Update etc..), now not being able anymore to control the volume, light from my keyboard etc..My question is: I there a way to recover this Vaio System without having to do the complete recovery which will only take me back to the German operating system.
PLEASE HELP! My best to all.

If you could figure out the equivalent USA model the drivers are available at esupport.sony.com

No FS115 is listed so you might have to do a bit of sleuthing.....

    There is Sony UK too.

You could contact Sony if you don't have a recovery disc - but that would be in German if the laptop was originally sold with a German OS.

If he's already got XP loaded he just needs the drivers in English. He'd need an English recovery disk for a German laptop which sony may not provide.

True the UK site would be the best place to look, sorry -- I'm in Canada and I didn't even think of that -- d'uh.

Thank you heaps guys for your answers!
Well, I-ve just started downloading the drivers from Sony UK (It's actually taking a life and the first attempt was vain "Operation timed out" after having downloaded just 20%). Anyway, I was told by Sony assistance there's no chance I could recover the Vaio keyboards functions, and not all those drivers from Utilities Package are going to work, ..that the radical solution would be buying the cd recovery disc from Sony (The Italian licence costs no less than 200 euros..) but a French or an English would do me just fine too.
Still downloading now, I'll let you know. In the meanwhile I'd appreciate any more suggestions! My best to all and thanks a bunch again!

I think that reply sounds fishy.

Make sure you figurre out the right order to instal stuff, but Sony should have all you need (except certain licensed applications like Photoshop Elements) on its website.

Sony website gives you only the possibility to update your drivers which I did i think successfully and in the right order as DetlevCM recommended (the Drivers Utilities Package, 10 or 11 drivers they were). Amazingly I got back the keyboard control over the volume and light (one guy in a Vaio notebook shop told me flatly I'll never get those back..), and going to Start>All Programms> I now can see there listed "Vaio Control Center" and "Vaio Update2".
This operation nevertheless didn't restore what I need most: The Vaio Zone. Searching the web I found a blog offering this link http://www.benhaines.co.uk/2007/11/25/download-for-sony-vaio-zone-full-installation-package/ that allows downloading the full Vaio Zone package. I downloaded it but it doesn't work. I mean it's there on my desktop and in All Programs but when I click on the registered icons nothing happens. "Vaio Zone help" and "Vaio Zone read me" open but not "Vaio Zone settings" so Vaio Zone is there but it's kind of empty! The Vaio Launcher Version I downloaded (it's available for free) is: 1.7.00.03160. The reason it doesn-t work could it be that this version is incomppatible with my notebook model (VGN-FS115B ?) They say the version works both for Vista and Windows and I have Windows..
Besides my keyboard is still a mess (the punctuation) I wish I could get it back in German, the only thing i would like to get back in German actually as I got used to it.

    So what do you think?
    Thank you all for listening..
    My best

If you use Vista or XP - there is generally a little option to display the keyboard language in the taskbar.

Otherwise - go into control panel - and change the keyboard language.

It's not anymore in the taskbar after I have taken off the German OS. I went inside Control Panel and clicked the keyboard icon but I can't see where I can change the language. There are just 2 sub-menus: Speed and Hardware but no language setting. Maybe the driver for that hasn't been re-installed successfully?

    Should work...

    Its also part of Windows.

Control Panel -> classic view -> Region and Langauge options (something like that, my OS is German...) -> Tab Keyboards and laguages -> click button change keyboard (or so)

Sorry, I can't help you with "Vaio Zone" - I haven't got it on my SZ...
(Either it was never there in the first place or I got rid of it)
