    I have a Sony Vaio VGN-C140G
My vaio spends most of its life on my desk at home with a set of speakers plugged into it.
I turn it off, detach the speakers and take it with me on Christmas vacation. I start it up again and it makes this continuous, VERY loud, high pitched scream which is very very annoying. I get it started up then i bring up the volume control window and mute the volume... the sound stops..
i'm using it as i type this and i can tell you the computer doesnt seem to have any sort of other issues other than that noise.
So since it goes away when i mute the volume i'm guessing it has something to do with the built-in speakers themselves or something to do with whatever component deal with my computer's audio?
any other vaios present this issue? I did a brief search on the forum here and saw some similar stuff come up for HP's.
anybody have experience or knowledge with this issue?
    thanks,
    steve

This is related to the intel core2 duo processor frequency switching. I returned mine (previous 3 laptops) because of the same reason.

no its not! cos his noise goes away when he mutes the sound! CPU whine will stay regardless of volume!

Sounds more like white noise from the speakers when the volume is turned up, and nothing is coming out of them.

try upgrading your audio software, or the Windows drivers and see if that helps?

Try muting the microphone. You may be getting feedback from the built in mic.
