Hello, this is my first post so I am sorry if the question has already been asked.

I have a friend with a Vaio that does not recognize the CD drive. The drive is electrically okay (opens, motor spins) but does not appear in the drive list. Instead, Windows XP thinks there is a Memory Stick in the D: slot. I have tried uninstalling the Memory Stick but it always reinstalls upon reboot.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so what is the solution?

    Regards,
    M.R.F.

I've got the same problem on a Vaio PCG-V505EX with Windows XP. It seems like there are some solutions out there for Vista systems, but not much for XP. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks to everyone who helps newbies like me.
