I've got a USB3 hard drive connected to the PMD on my vaio Z, and the transfer speeds seem awfully slow - getting below 20mb/s atm, which would suggest it's running at usb2.0 speeds.

Anyone else found this to be the case?

If you have HDD then it's buffer get's filled and it will slow down in the transfer speeds.
This happends even if one of the devices you're transfering is HDD while the other is SSD.

But if they both are SSD then the speeds will be significantly faster for the whole process.

Also the windows built in copy is not accurate, use program called TeraCopy for more accurate results.

I just ran a benchmark on my external disk - only got 30mb/s.

When transferring data off my old vaio SA, I was getting 50+...

Is it because the bus is shared on the PMD between the LAN and other USB ports?

OS and drive buffers have filled up/been exhausted, and now you're transfering data as fast as the hard drive can supply/consume it.

So yes it will do fast transfers with small files but since benchmarking usually is done ~ 500mb-1GB buffers get filled.

But I know the drive can easily do 50mb... that's what gets me. Its much faster when connected direct to the Z too..
