    Hi all,

    I have a Vaio Z VPCZ12ggx 8 GB Ram

    I was wondering if:

    1. Its possible to install Windows 8
    2. Is there any benefit performance-wise or other to do this upgrade from Win7 ?

    Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance

    M

    Thanks for your response.

As you and I both know. The Z series i core machines FLY!! Machine is so fast that I am spoiled. :)

So, do you see any MORE speed, refresh, anything better with Win8?

Was it worth updating for you and if so, why? I would love to hear your personal view on the upgrade. Pros/Cons etc??

    Thanks again
    M

Nothing significant. Like carlsus said, no issues, although by all accounts the SD card reader is a little iffy.

One of the big advantages that Windows 8 has over over Windows 7 - fast start - does not work well with hybrid graphics, so us Z1 guys don't see the benefit (unless you have hacked the BIOS and use static switching). Also, our BIOS does not support UEFI, so the lightning fast booting that computers built for Windows 8 enjoy is not available to us. So although in some aspects Windows 8 might actually be better, we don't get to see it.

A very bad downside is the absence of the safe mode for troubleshooting. To get to safe mode, you first have to boot normally, choose the option to reboot into safe mode, and the PC restarts and goes into safe mode. So if you can't boot normally, you can't get to safe mode. Whichever blithering idiot at M$ thought that one up should be boiled alive and then grilled. Playing around with F8 sometimes starts the recovery process; you end up losing data due to the fresh install of Windows. Highly recommended that all your important data is backed up, and all the files you have downloaded are on a non-system partition.

    Well that settles it.

    Staying with Windows 7 lol

I just wish I would have gotten the Quad Core i7 before they discontinued the Z.
    Imagine a Z with i7 (3.0gHz +) Quad Core Ivory Bridge + 16GB Ram +512 or 768 SSD.

So as it stands. I have Dual Core i7/turbo boost + 8GB Ram + 256 SSD

    Thanks :)
