    hi,

I am looking for advice. My Vaoi was in standard form as shipped, when a tech guy at my university came to sort out a problem with a virus. Unfortunately, when it was originally linked to the university system it was given conflicting addresses, so when, having made a change, he logged out, neither of us could log back on. I did not think to use the Vaoi reboot, and let him load the uni standard Windows 7 image, which wiped all of the Vaio software! Sony help desk tech guy said there was no way to get USB, HDMI etc working, just wait for the repair disks to install factory settings. Since then (with help of posts on various sites) i have got USB (mouse, keyboard etc.), HDMI, brighteness, volume working, but not Power Media Dock. What is strange is that when it is plugged in I get a messge that i have not powered off correctly, and I can also 'undock' it, but otherwise it is not recognised (so have no DVD, have to plug in all connections manually each time). Have loaded what looks like the right driver, but no luck.

    Any suggestions?

    thanks in advance, john

What happens when you start Z with PMD connected? Does W7 load? Also in Device manager do you have 2 video cards or just one?

I believe you issue might be poor W7 installation (from "image" in your case), that would explain issues described with USB/HDMi...would prefer if you do regular, old-fashioned clean install (did it twice no issues). And no, you don't need all of Vaio software to have everything up and running.

You may also try loading "last good known configuration" and see if that helps. For me it worked once, I was messing around with Comodo firewall, running some custom-made cleanup, haven't seen so many yellow marks in Device manager in my life.....

    EDIT:
Did you install usb 3.0 host controller?
