My hard drive crashed and the recovery discs and everything I tried wouldn't work to get this thing booted. I wound up having to format the drive and install the same vista home premium. I downloaded all the drivers and software from the Sony Site.

At this point I don't have any of the Sony installed items, except drivers. I tried to download the Sony Recovery Center under notebook utilities, and when it installs, the end result is "This update is not intended for use with your computer model". Is is the right model, however it doesn't say it's an update just that it's the software. I can't get it installed to be able to use the choices for recovery. I can't use the recovery software now, and this is used for business and I can't afford to wipe everything out (it didn't work the first time anyway) and I used to say Sony had wonderful recovery options in installing each different software installed. Other systems you have to wipe out everything and start over. Now they won't help and their chat is useless.

Any suggestions on how I can get this VAIO recovery center installed?

P.S whenever I have tried to use the recovery discs, it wouldn't because it kept looking for the recovery partition which was gone. It still is gone.

    Thanks... :)

You don't need the recovery partition if you use the recovery DVD's.

I am using Vista and it kept asking where the recovery drive was and failed because it was wiped out. I know the discs are good as I did have a successfull original install not long after I had this computer. Ergo, after the reformat is when I couldn't put it back to the original state.

The recovery disks do NOT require the recovery partition. One of the functions they are intended for is to completely restore a hard drive INCLUDING the recovery partition.

Are you trying to BOOT from the recovery disk? Or trying to use it from within Vista?

I couldn't access the OS at all so I was booting from the recovery disk to restore and even tried to put the system back to factory without success. As mentioned earlier, I have had to use the recovery disc 3-4 times successfully, as this computer has had a lot of issues. This time it was a no go and reformatted the drive and the recovery would not work after.
