it looks as if the power connection point on my TT11LN/B is failing as its caused the outer area to melt in place.

As it obviously needs repairing i thought it might be worth upgrading the laptop to an SSD/Hybrid and more memory.

Can someone confirm what type of SDD I need and whether there are any hybrid versions available that will fit.

It currently has 4GB ram but I'm sure I've seen mentioned that it can take 8GB (obviously using 64bit O/S) - can anyone confirm this.

Anyone got any recommendations for where I can get the above done in the UK?

    TIA

I don't know of any hybrid 1.8 drives.
The TT needs a 1.8 microsata/uSata drive. You could also possibly use an adapter and an mSata drive also.
You could contact vaiorefurbs via ebay. I think they have their own website now to so you could google their name and contact them via their site. They have upgraded my TT in the past for me.
I don't which part of the UK you live in but you could also possibly try this site.
    CTS UK Ltd: Sony Authorised
Also, i've used dngcomputers and i would recommend them also.

Yes, the TT can use 8GB of ram and a few members have had issues with Corsair ram.

    Hey Rachel,

I see your Vaio TT seems to have the kinda specs i would like mine to have (256GB SSD and 8GB RAM). I wanted to know is it at all possible to rebuild a TT internally and put in an i7 processor?

    Hi Rachel,
Thanks for the feedback. I'll check out those links.
Any recommendations on the SSD and memory?
Most SSD's i search for always seem to be 2.5" - what model is your 256Gb one?

    Thanks

    I'm using a G3 Samsung PM810 aka Samsung 470.
    I posted a benchmark here-
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/8498825-post2216.html
Windows Index is 7.6 and i didn't do a clean install when I installed the new drive.

The Intel G3 is also worth a look. I've not seen the 1.8 benched in a similar system, but the 4k read results is probably a little higher.
A Sony Z user benched one here though at 2000MB. I won't run that test on my laptop to compare.

I've seen some 1.8 Intel 320GB drives on ebay.
This a thread that discusses both of those drives.

The Kingston +V100 appears to have the lowest power consumption overall and is a overall balanced performer.
