The XP drivers were released by Sony for the FZ190 model I believe they will also work on the FZ240. However they did NOT release the auxiliary applications for the Function keys or Power Managment. Some folks how switched to XP are now switching back to Vista because of this issue.

If you still want to proceed use the search box at the top of the screen and type "FX XP" without the quotes.

Thanks for the reply. I have used the drivers FZ190 and setup the XP home. Every hardware that i need (video, audio, wireless, ethernet etc)worked fine except for the card reader. Does anyone have any suggestions about the card reader driver?
    Thanks

    Hi again,
I solved the card reader problem. Now the notebook reeds the 2 GB sd cards. Only the function keys don't work. Those are not so important for me. I love XP :)

The function keys are just controlled by software although i hear you can download some sony notebook control from windows update thhats related. You should be able to get some generic hotkey software app to do the job, funnily they work perfect in linux for many models without special software

You should be able to find all of the XP drivers here

    ---

I think i'm going to give this a go - It just seems that Vista runs so slow. Granted its onboard video, but it should still be able to pump out more speed (i'd think anyways... 3.5 rating isn't that great). The fact Vista eats half the RAM doesn't help either...
Anyone satisfied with their decision to go back to XP?

The fact that you think this means you don't understand the new memory management built into Vista. Read through a few of the threads here on the subject. You will find that Vista uses a concept of "unused memory is wasted memory". It does NOT make the machine slower. In fact the opposite is true.

I don't understand the 'new memory' concept, because i have not bothered reading into it - i don't like vista, hense the reason i want to go back to xp.

    Yo obiwan2000,

Could you give step by step instructions on how you installed XP? I'm having a difficult time here and have been working on it for about a week already. I have followed everything so far in your discussion and have the FZ190 drivers. I am using the F6 method with a USB floppy drive. I put the SATA drivers for the FZ190 on it, but I still come to the same problem I always run in to which is another blue screen that asks me to install the floppy disk that has "Intel Matrix Storage Manager" on it. But when I do that and press enter, nothing happens.

If anyone else can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
