Five years ago Sony had the VAIO X505:
Review: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=1970
I got to use it and review it. It was awesome for the first five minutes to look at and experience the thinness. Then you realize you just paid $2K for a laptop that's horribly underpowered relative to a $600 mainstream notebook and buyers remorse hits you hard.
But, it's definitely great for building buzz to show these things off at an expo. You'd think by now that 5-years on we'd have a laptop as thin as paper since we already achieved the thin as a paper notebook measurement in 2004 -
I just watched that review and when you hear "Atom" with "1000 to 1500 pounds" you question the judgment of everyone involved in making it. I hope they mean to put a new version of the atom in there (and it has miraculously high performance) or they go with a ULV.
