My VGN-SZ484N comes preinstalled with Windows Vista Business, but the built-in games are not there, even when I add them from the control panel, they seem like they are being installed, then i get an ok message, but they didn't actually install.

    What to do?

Note, when I install Vista Business from a regular Vista installation CD the games do come preinstalled, but I want to install from the Sony backup restoration partition as it comes preinstalled with all teh apps / drivers.

    any ideas?

You can add them thru program features. Add/Remove windows features> Check "games".

Well guys this is what i'm trying to say??? didn't i just say that I did enable them from the control panel add/remove windows components??

When i do that and hit ok, it seems like windows is actually instaling the games, but come check, nothing installed.

Atually, when I install Vista business using a normal Vista installation DVD I get all the games, I guess that's what i'll be doing once SP1 is officially out rather than using the backup restoration from VAIO

Here's a post I made about this a while back ---- it took me a long time to find out how to enable to games on vista too!

For convenience, I'll copy it here:

Oh, here's the link to the MS site describing the above.

You guys don't seem to understand what I'm trying to say. I know how to turn them on!!! They're just not included with the OEM version of Vista Business that SONY includes! When I add them through control panel as described above nothing happens!

AHHH I think I know why they aren't being installed in my case! I cannot see the recovery partition in MY Computer. I dunno why it's hidden, when I first format I could see it! So in this case, the OS has no where to get the games file from since I can't see the recovery partition.

How do I view the contents of the recovery partition i know it's there I didn't delete it and I can see it in the disk management console

When you go through Control Panel to add/remove Windows components, it does not access the recovery partition -- that is a Windows function that knows nothing of Sony's proprietary image partition. It either extracts them from install files already on the HDD, or they're already there and it just adds/removes icons on the Start Menu/Desktop. I'm expecting that the source files are not there, or are corrupt. At least that's the way Windows prior to Vista worked, and I can't imagine Vista being any different.

Have you checked Event Viewer to see if any errors are being silently logged there?
