Well ---- I received and tried to install the Vista upgrade (how could I resist?) and ran into a hang up. The program went through the processes of uninstalling various VAIO applications, utilities, etc, and then ran into problems with:
OpenMG AAC Add-on Module
The application would continually try to uninstall the above module, would restart, and then would try to uninstall again. My computer kept restarting and trying this again and again for more than an hour (in the system restore log, it lists adjusting the configuration of the module many, many times).
I called Sony tech support and, of course, the guy didn't have anything constructive to tell me. His last bit of troubleshooting was to ask me if my computer had a "Vista Ready" sticker on it. Thanks guy!
I ended up restoring my computer to just before trying to run the upgrade, and everything seems to be working fine (I had uninstalled lots of things, like the fingerprint reader software, prior to starting the process, and they all seem to be functioning just fine).
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions/fixes for this, or if people are running into other snags with the express upgrade? Also wondering if anyone's had success with the process.
Thanks!!

One update: I can no longer get AVG up and running.
Won't uninstall anymore, won't reinstall. Etc.
Frustrating!! -
Download Vista Business image from Microsoft and do the clean install. Just use the vista key that Sony provided. That is the best way.

So I got Vista running --- but had a pretty rocky install process. This morning I restored my SZ to factory settings (yay for not deleting the recovery partition) and am currently re-going through the process. The good news is that the module that was causing my computer to hang-up before didn't cause any problems at all this time.

Manually uninstall all OpenMG applications. (OpenMG AAC Add-on Module)
Control Panel -> Add Remove Program -> ...
I have no problem to upgrade mine. -
I tried doing that, but it didn't work for me.
In the end, I ended up restoring my computer using the recovery partition, and then re-installing Vista without making excessive changes to my machine (apart from removing the usual culprits first: Norton, I'm looking at you). Ran the update as instructed by Sony. Went off without a hitch.
