    Hi everybody:

Does anyone experience this issue too?

Sometimes, Vista hangs/freezes suddenly, and you have no other option, except to do force shutdown (press and hold the power button for about 4 seconds).

Aside to that, things run fine. Maybe I should post this in the Windows OS forum, but I thought, I would ask the VAIO users first.

    .........

    Thanks

    Hi,

I assume you have the latest Windows updates installed. You can use the event log to determine what is causing this but it is more often than not (in my experience) due to software you have installed or not having the latest drivers for your various components.

Without more clues as to exactly when this happens, I unfortunately don't think there is much else that can be said... I hope you get this resolved!

One thing that might really help (at least for a little while) if you haven't done it already is a clean install...

This happens to me on my Toshiba X205-9349 even after doing a clean install and I even had the infamous blue screen of hell pop up when vista is starting up as well a couple of times, luckly I haven't had the problem yet on either of my 2 Sony laptops but it may happen even though I hope it does not.

    :(

Yeah, not nice! I had the infamous BSOD on my Dell high-end gaming desktop back when Vista was first launched and updating all my drivers, combined with a clean install, seemed to do the trick. Fingers crossed. But I know what you mean -- this really shouldn't happen and is infuriating.

    Good luck!

I am looking at my event reports, but haven't found anything significant yet. I am going to try remember the event time again, when Vista freezes.

    Thanks!

There should be info under the critical errors area. Sometimes (I don't know precisely why) they take a day or two to appear in the console but these are the ones you want to look for as they include the blue screens, etc.

    It happened again!

I looked into the event service, and noticed that there were 2 COM+ services that failed to load. I set them to either manual or disabled. I set them to automatic (delayed) now, and they started running.

Let's see if Vista freezes again

You got it! Vista froze again, after waking up from hibernation.

I got this in the event viewer: The winlogon notification subscriber GPClient was unavailable to handle a notification event.

    Does anyone have any idea?

Are you connected to some sort of domain? Were you when you put the machine into hibernation? GPClient is for Group Policy, usually from a domain login.

    Nope, not at all.

I googled tons of stuff earlier, and tinkered with the local policies, services, and DCOM. I forgot what I did exactly, but I haven't encountered the problem again so far. Ugh.................just waiting until it happens again

It happened again, and I got the error log of KtRM not being able to start, because Security Account Manager service was disabled. I made both automatic now.
