I have successfully done a clean install on my sz220b and everything works fine with the new hard drive and all but now for some reason even though I am the only user/admin on this computer it won't let me rename any folders.....even on my desktop!!!! It says that file/folder doesn't exist and then the title reverts back to new folder. In fact I didn't even have this problem till I started bringing files in from my old hard drive. Is there any cure for this? I could really use your help because I just finished re-installing all of my old software and everything. Thanks in advance

I was having trouble editing certain files too until I disabled UAC. If that's an option for you try disabling it.

nope.......didn't work. I have no idea how to fix this. I imagine that it would have to do something with my permissions but I don't know what a normal list of permissions looks like either.

This will work! you need to take over the folder before deleting it if it was in C:

Assuming you already have admin privileges: Right-click the folder you wish to delete, click Properties, then click your Security tab.

The bottom half of the Security window will list the current user permissions. Click the Advanced button you'll see there.

Click the Owner tab, then click the Edit button (you'll be asked for permission if UAC is enabled).

Change the Owner to your own account, then place a checkmark next to the words, 'Replace owner on subcontainers and objects' and click the Apply button. This results in all files including system files being switched to your account as the owner.

Now click 'Advanced Security Settings for (your folder) '. Now you can edit the permissions: select your account (the one you just used to take ownership) and click the Edit button.
You will now see the Permissions tab. Select your user account (first doublecheck that the permission set for it is Full Control). Place a checkmark next to the words, 'Replace all existing inheritable permissions…', then click Apply.
Vista may still ask for permission to delete your folder, but now you have the permission you need to delete it.

I got it!!! It was my own stupid fault. I turned off password protected sharing and for some reason that affected my ability to rename folders......really freakin weird but whatever....it works now. Thanks for the suggestions. I did what you recommended as well Maximus. Thanks for the tip ;). Now my Vaio is fat and happy and filled with music again lol.
