TPM and Protector Suite QL working to together can make the start up very slow, at the logging page the sz keeps displaying "Performing cryptographic operation on TPM hardware", it will stay on about 3 mins. At this time I can't use the finger login. Anyway to avoid this? Thank you!

I too have notice slower startups since installing this software a few days ago. Not sure if I am going to keep it around or not.

I think this software is unusable for this slower startup.

Out of curiosity what is it that you have on your laptop that you need encrypted by TPM? Unless you have a valid answer you should just turn it off.

I finally was able to get my TPM fully running on my SZ460 with Vista preinstalled. I had to figure out that I had to enable the TPM in the BIOS, go to VAIO Security Center and click Encryption to install the Infineon TPM software suite, and then run the Infineon Security Platform Initialization Wizard. I also had to use Protector Suite QL to enable the advanced security settings and store its data securely.

After all this, I now seem to have lots of TPM features enabled and I haven't noticed any major slowness in my last two reboots. I do have my system set to automatically login my user.

As for info I have that requires TPM encryption protection... nothing, really. TPM is one of the unique features of the SZ and I'd like to take advantage of it. Like the fingerprint reader, this capability is more for toy use to me. But the idea that my website passwords as registered with the fingerprint reader are more securely encrypted on my hard drive is a little reassuring, although I don't really worry much about that type of info if my laptop were to be stolen.

P.S. I got really crazy and started using EFS to encrypt my Documents directory. But in all my fussing around I got into a state where Protector Suite could access its info via the TPM anymore and I deleted the backup password and then all I could do was reset the TPM in the BIOS and start all over. Only after that did I realize that my previously-encrypted Documents directory would be no longer accessible and I deleted the old TPM keys backup when I started over again... DUH. Now I'll avoid EFS or really be careful about limiting its use and making ordinary filesystem backups of anything depending on it!

It will slow if you want to use Protector Suite QL and fingerprint reader to login. If you use the password, you can enter it directly despite of "Performing cryptographic operation on TPM hardware" small window.

I get the "Performing cryptographic operation" popup window when I use my fingerprint reader to recall browser password registration info, access the Protector Suite QL control panel user options, etc. It only stays up for a few seconds, not minutes.

Tonight I'll undo my auto-login and see if I can reproduce the slowness you two are seeing for fingerprint login.
