Ok, as we've found out there seems a bit of a delay in the Sony Notebook Utilites to load up, though it seems an issue with Vista (and I'm guessing something between Vista and the Intel chipset or graphics, something related to the power management). You can tell there is a delay when right after Windows has loaded up and the Welcome Center starts..that it takes quite a long while for you to be able to select something from the Menu which pops up when you click on the plug/battery icon in the system tray (Power options). Also it takes a while for the Brightness function keys to work. Please confirm this if this is the case with you too, so far it seems to be the case with all SZ6 users. A flicker of the screen usually accompanies the load up of the Event Service and Notebook Utilities (sometimes 30-40seconds after Vista has loaded already) - the Sony LAN Utility (also has an icon in the System Tray) also takes a while to load up.

Anyways, I was wondering whether you guys also experience the following problem:

Despite the above delay, it is possible to start using the rest of Vista right away. The thing is though, when I fire up Internet Explorer, it connects to the Internet and I can browse the net...however, during the time the Sony Notebook Utils & Event Service load up it seems to disconnect (and then reconnect after 5-10 seconds) - I believe this is when the LAN Util/Wireless Switch Setting Utility takes over. Do you guys have the same problem? Btw this is when connected to Internet via wireless...I'm guessing the problem wont be there when connected via a wired LAN.

Ok I'm pretty sure now this is due to the Wireless Switch Setting Utility (Sony). However, if i disable this then I don't think there is a way to turn on Wifi nor Bluetooth, or is there?

You are not the only one experiencing the problem! I have a similar problem and couldn't figure out what's going on? It takes about 30-40 seconds before it kicks in.

Ah great to know this, could you also mention what type of install you did? Sony Recovery, semi-clean or fully clean? Also would be good to hear from the rest of the SZ6 owners whether they can confirm the above or not (and if they've found any solution to the problem).

The flicker is actually a feature of Vista. It is a service called transient multi monitor manager (TMM) and when the screen flickers, its windows checking to see if an external monitor is connected. It is handy when you switch between the laptop screen and an external monitor alot because it basically is automatic when you plug the monitor in and out, you dont have to manually change settings; but if you only use the laptops screen I can see how the flicker would get annoying. It can be disabled.

    How do you disable it?
