I installed Vista on my SZ381P. Finaly got all everything working with the drivers after scouring the forum.
However, justa minute ago I realize there was some bug (maybe it's only me). When I go battery, I use the Vaio Power Management for Ultimate Battery which automaticaly disables the DVD drive. THe problem is that when I go into any profile which disables the DVD drive, a bubble pops up telling me that it cannot shut down the DVD drive because there currently is a disc inside - there is NO disc.
I'd like to know how to get VAIO power management to disable the DVD drive without confusing itself.
Thanks in advance.

Odd, I haven't used the Ultimate profile but on all my profiles including Vaio Optimized I have it disable the DVD/CD driver when it's on battery and it seems to work perfectly fine.
Have you upgraded the firmware of the DVD/CD? Sony posted a firmware upgrade a few weeks ago. -
Solved. Not a matter of firmware.
I have Daemontools with an image loaded into my virtual DVD/CD rom drive. VAIO would not shut down either drive, the real or the virtual, because of the virtual drive's error. -
Note:
I tried installing the firmare from Son'y site dated back from Jan 2007.
On installation it said the firmware was not compatible with my optical drive.
Weird... anyone have that issue? -
Maybe try running it on XP or in XP Compatible mode?

I was about to say to check for virtual drives because with my Daemon tools runing I get the error that the drive tray is open.
Vista cannot shut down DVD?
