Has anyone installed Vista on a TX-650 and if so are there any heads up you can give me before I start? Thanks in advance.

I have it running in dual boot mode on my tx750. Create a partition beyond C and it will install with most things working. I downloaded sony's drivers for wireless devices and sound (I believe). I did not have the option of installing Aeroglass (although I heard on one of these forums that someone got it runnign on a TX...just not sure how the heck they did it with integrated graphics). Runs fairly well and not too slow (I have 1.5 gig of ram). Eye candy mostly. I also downloaded the office 2007 beta to have it running and trend AVirus since it is the only one that works with Vista at this point. I will probably delete it soon and only installed it since I was about to fresh install the system to clean things up a bit. Good Luck. Should go fine. Download the drivers first since your wireless may not work initially.

PS. make the Sony backup discs if you have not already. It should still work after the install, but the ole just in case. Good Luck.

Excellent - THanks BlueGuru, I think I will try to night. I am considering purchasing a new machine also, perhaps the new 13.3 inch model.

I did the same thing before buying the TX (had a TR). Power and screen is tempting. However, I could not get used to the funky keyboard (hard to believe, but too big and deep) or the size and pathetic battery life, relatively speaking. I returned it after a few days. ULV Core 2 with better graphics (integrated from intel) may be out for the TX before Vista comes out (more details on July 23 Intel announcement from what I have read). TX 8 series with biometric fingerprint reader and hard drive shock protection is imminent also (FCC? approved recently). Lots of good things coming to the TX line soon. I wish I had held out another year.

    Cheers,

    B

The integrated video card (intel 915GMS/GMA900) meets the minimal requirement for running aero glass. In fact it's probably the only integrated video card that can run aero glass. You might want to search on how others enabled aero glass (I think it has something to do with removing the pre-installed drivers and let vista install another one for you).

Got it installed and it works well, there are a few things that bother me:

Windows Mail does not support Hotmail - go figure
Can get the Toshiba Bluetooth working, which is a bummer as I use a bluetooth mouse.

BlueGuru - I agree on the SZ, when and looked at one today and I did not care for the keyboard. Considering the Dell XPS 1210 with optional Nvidia graphics.

    Thanks!

Did Vista before here too...not to fast, not %100 functioning.

Not trying to highjack this thread but how are you guys reinstalling your TX's i cannot seem to perfect a clean install on this notebook. It works fine with the recovery dvd but i always wanted to do a 100% clean install on this and have everything work after. I tried a few times but due to lack of time i could never completely figure it out, the best way i found is to cut the recovery at a certain time (after the main drivers are loaded and before the bloat) but i am sure there is a better way? Any of you guys have luck with this? I mean a 100% clean install with a 100% of the drivers working and 0% of the bloatware.

I also had problems making a bootable XP disc from the i386 contents with this particular notebook. Ideas? Thoughts?

    Thanks a Bunch :)
