Hi, just an update to a thead i posted a while back moaning about windows Vista login time (Remember? when it would just sit at the welcome screen for ages then get a black screen for a while longer etc...)

Well im happy to say that i've found out what's causing it, it's because i had mapped drives, it waits for the wifi to kick in and connect to the drives before it loads your desktop.. wich is stupid. However if your on a wired network you'll be fine because it more or less connects instantly, wifi takes a little longer wich is what it waits for.

Now im wondering if theres a way to make the wifi connect straght away, its just convenient to have the drive there. When mapping a drive you can uncheck 'Reconnect at logon' but for some reason it doesent save the drive.

Anyway hoped this helped some people having trouble like this..

    Mike.

That's very good to know. I've never liked my drive reconnecting at logon unless I know for sure the drives will be there again anytime I turn on the CPU.

Flip off your Wireless switch before you turn on the computer, then flip on once you get to your desktop.

That is odd. Vista loads completely for me and my wifi still has not connected to my network. It takes maybe a minute more after Vista has loaded completely.

I have been researching this problem for 3 weeks. No solution on the internet.
Vista takes >60 seconds to connect to wifi, which holds up the startup process. Have re-configured and tried everything with no success. EIther its a Vista bug with certain configs, or the router not being Vista compatible.

^^ Vista takes hell a lot of time to connect particularly to a wireless G access point. Mine takes more than a minute (sometimes 2 mins) to connect.

Vista never takes more than 15 seconds to connect to my wireless access point. So this is not a general Vista issue at all.

I am using the Vista SP1 Beta, and the Wireless is connected already, before the the boot is done and the HDD stopped working.

Sounds like M$ recognized this issue and has addressed it in SP1 -- that would be nice.
