I just installed Vista ultimate using all the new drivers provided by sony, And now when I close the lid of my notebook and re-open it the screen stays dark, The only way to get it to come back on is to put it into standby and bring it out again, I have read a few other accounts of this, Could anyone else experiencing this make a post so we know how many computers this is effecting? and anyone not experiencing it please list what GPU your lappy has and what rev driver you are using.

I have the Go 7400 also and I notice whenever I open the lid of my laptop the screen resolution always changes, and sometimes it gets stuck in 1024x768 where my natural resolution is 1280x800.

The drivers are still very buggy and I bet that may be whats causing your issue as well.

I would check for more updated drivers from Sony and your video card manufacturer as well.

Also, it could also be a problem with the ACPI which regulates the power management for your laptop. It could be that your laptop is incompatible with Vista. I would search on Sony's website to see if they have an updated BIOS for your laptop model.

I have used both the GMA950 and the nVidia 7400 settings on the SZ120... Both are working flawlessly in regards to the lid opening and the resolution... I am using the drivers from the website...

I have de C1Z with GeForce 7400 Go with Vista Business installed, and I am experiencing the same problem with the screen remaining black after reopening the lid (with setting "do nothing when closing lid"). It is really annoying, so if somebody knows how to solve this problem, it would be greatly appreciated! ps. I have used several different drivers, all with same result!

Likewise, Ive tried 2 revisions of the laptop2go site, And 2 versions from Sony, I have the latest Bios. I spoke to sony and Unsurprisingly they were absolutely useless. I read in a forum on MSDN that this is effecting HP and Sony mostly.

I am experiencing the same problem with my Vaio FE that was upgraded to Vista Home Premium. Computer shuts off when the lid is closed, even though "do nothing when lid is closed" is checked. I have nVidia 7400 graphics card. If I check to "go to sleep" when lid is closed, it will wake from sleep when I open the lid and press the button, though.

I think I've solved the problem,

My screen would go blank when I opened the lid and the computer was still *on*, but would start up fine if it was on sleep or hibernate.

Thus I assumed it was the screen saver - so I changed the screensaver from Windows Energy (I believe the default), to just a blank screen. And have not experienced the problem since.

Try out the screensaver and let us know if that works for you. Hope this helps

    mine doesn't do that.

    my settings are:
    no hibernation
    no screen saver
did not select the option to "turn off drives, etc"

    try those settings.

    Folks,

We have been having a similar discussion on the msdn forums and have found an apparent workaround for this irritating problem.

The behavior I was seeing is as follows: I have my Sony VGN-FE590P set to 'do nothing' when I close the lid. If I close the lid, the screen is turned off. If I open it again, it doesn't turn on. I had the power button set to sleep, and pressing it would put the computer in sleep mode. Turning it back on would result in the screen not turning back on.

    The Workaround:
This appears to be related to a problem with the Vista ACPI Lid Close driver. If you go to the device manager and change this driver to the Volume Manager driver (to effectively disable it without removing it), this problem should go away. You'll have to go to the properties dialog, update driver, browse the system for a driver. You'll need to uncheck the 'show compatible' checkbox to see the volume manager driver.

Whenever Microsoft decides to release an updated ACPI driver this issue should be permanently resolved. This gives you a workaround until then.
