    Hi my first thread here.
I couldnt find any thread related to these isssue...
So please dont flame me if it is discussed allready,
    please post the thread-link.

    1.
When I use the default battery-saving "theme", VAIO Optimised
and use the TZ on battery, I allways receive an Windows error.
When the computer starts it complains that it has to shutdown some
.NET 2.0 process because it has crashed. This happens for a TZ
with default programs directly from factory settings...
When I click the "details" to check up the problem, it says the origin of the problem has something to do with .NET 2.0 and VAIO Power Saving settings...

I track down the problem to the enable/disable CD-Drive on battery.
Solution: If I enable CD-Drive under battery mode this error wont appear.

Shoulnt Sony have solved this error in the testing-phase, right?
The TZ should function without Vista error even if I use disable CD-Drive.
Or maybe this is only my computer, how about yours.

    2.
My TZ lets my decide the memory speed either at 400 Mhz or 533.
I tested with both and the Vista experience program showed same scores.
Does the higher (533) speed really affects my battery as the speed-setting claims? What I mean with affects is it requires more than 10% extra battery.
    What is your experience?

I am not sure. Sorry. If I was to guess I would update my .NET Framework drivers and see if that was the issue.

    2.
You are basically under-clocking the RAM. It is designed to run at 533 Mhz and use x power. Because you are selecting to run it at 400 Mhz, it does not need to use as much power to reach that level as it does to run at 533 Mhz.

I can't speak from first hand experience with it, but the principle and logic are sound. You will save on some battery power, but it would not be a huge amount. I'd consider using that option when watching a DVD or something similar.

    Thanks for quick reply.

Tried to both update Vista and VAIO.
But no new updates were available.

Guess I have to wait until this is reported as a issue or
somebody here know which windows registry-key I have to change.

Weird that Sony under-clocks their computers,
guess they have to use every way to support their
claims, that the TZ works 11 hours (HK Sony statement)

.NET 2.0 is fairly stable and I doubt it is the source of the problem.

I would try reinstalling the VAIO Power Saving settings utility using your application restore CD. Also check sony's support website to see if there is an updated version of the utility.

All notebooks have forms of under-clocking to get the most out of a battery. The Santa Rosa platform is heavily designed around switching speeds to save on battery life.

Also, you are aware that Sony HK and Japan state their battery times based on nothing being run and everything being set to its lowest? Australia and the US state more real-world times, to save confusion.

Good luck with getting everything fixed.
