    Hi,

Few weeks back, I opened my E series laptop because it was getting too hot so i thought that I should at least take a look at its fan if it has dust or not... So I opened it and found no dust so i closed the case as it is.

Today, I started getting few problems, one of them is keyboard area have become very flexible, touchpad not responding (well, anyone who uses E series laptop for long hours like 11 to 14 hrs per day will confirm that its touchpad isnt really good), etc

So I went to service center and they told me that warranty have been voided even if laptop has been opened by me (end-user).

They even told me that outer hardware parts doesnt include in warranty and under warranty only those parts are replaced which have been damaged due to electricity... man, this is totally , compare to sony, dell is awesome, dell replaces parts easily - no questions asked by them!

Regarding toucpad, they told me that i might used oily hands to use touchpad so it has been damaged! Again, totally nonsense reason, I dont use oil in my home at all.

In other words, they told me that even if laptop was under warranty they would not have replaced the parts since under warranty parts like hard disk, ram are replaced.

If you are from India, think twice before buying it and think thrice times before trying to open it.

I know you feel hopeless, but you shouldn't open it at all because sony computer is hard to open in the first place...

second, have you opened any laptop before?

Because from your laptop condition, i can see that you are not very good at opening laptop that you break some part inside until you said that the keyboard part feels soft...

    Sony Customer Service is suck...
Bad Experience with Sony On-Site Support

Bad experience with Sony Vaio SZ-140 purchase

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...ias-official-service-centre-lce-services.html

i saw 1 more about sony after sales support, a customer that wanted WinDVD HD... i can't find the link now...

And the last will be my experience, I bought my Sony VAIO Z129GG/QX 1 month ago exactly 2/7/2010 and it spoiled few days ago 2/8/2010 about the ssd issue... yesterday i sent it to sony and i am waiting for the result
i hope i didn't see any screen problem, noise cancelling problem, blu ray drive problem.

    Hi,

    Thanks for replying.

I have opened dell laptop many times before.

The part which got broke is a small wifi button on motherboard. thats isnt a big issue for me, because I can still use wifi.

The main problem is touchpad and keyboard area and lcd.

The problem is that the part between lcd and laptop is become loose and because of that keyboard area is now having great flex and dvd drive is loose too. The LCD is tied or sticked or whatever to laptop by two corners on end.

I remember that when I giving presentation I simply holded one side of lcd screen and moved laptop around so that the person sitting in front of me can see the screen...I did this like 3 or 4 times in total and only on 1 day and I am sure this made the LCD and laptop connection loose on one end... which is result made the fittings near that end to become loose too... man, u know what, I move my dell by holding LCD screen many times and nothing have happened to ti till now.. (by moving i meant -- suppose u r sitting on a table and ur laptop is on other end, at approx 2 feet length, so u simply stand up, stretch your hand and hold one side of lcd screen and bring laptop at your end)

I used to think that dell service is worst, if u search my threads u will find that i complained abt dell that their service in india compared to usa isnt good... but now, sony beats everyone in providing low quality material made laptops and bad service.

In case you don't know, it's the same here in the US. You open a Sony laptop, you void the warranty, simple as that, no matter where you are. Plus the way they build the laptop is that you can't change the HDD unless you open the laptop. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Because of that, I've avoided Sony laptops entirely.

Actually, in the U.S. they can say you will void the warranty, it does not mean you actually have. Companies prey on the fact that you don't know. Ever see on the back of trucks "not responsible for broken windshields", that doesn't protect them from anything, it only stops those who think a sign actually will hold up in court.

The Moss-Magnuson Act offers you some protection here against this sort of thing. If it goes to court they would have to prove that what you did actually caused the product to fail. Simply changing a part that is compatible is not enough to void your warranty. In the case of Moss-Magnuson, it was a car dealership voiding engine warranties for changing things like suspension parts.

Even in this case though, if the OP was in the U.S. he or she would still be screwed because the part in question is they messed with and very well may have done the damage. Personally, I think the warranty center is lying through their teeth, it could also just be a bad employee. I also think the OP created a lot more mess than there originally was.

Not true on all models. The FZ models for example have a drive access door.

In my experience Sony doesn't seem to care if you open your laptop and upgrade it as long as you don't cause any obvious physical damage. However, that may be dependent upon where you live and the person who does your repair. Your error might have been quite obvious to the tech.

I sent my laptop to Sony fully upgraded. I sent it in with a SSD upgrade, WWAN upgrade, ODD upgrade, HDMI added in and they honoured my warranty for me no questions asked. I sent it in with a burnt keyboard connector and i was quite expecting Sony to turn around and say i caused the damage and i was ready to pay if need be. I still don't know what caused the damage.

I live in the EU and I did think that were pretty stringent in the EU compared to the US.

I can affirm this too, most computer manufacturers I know repaired on warranty even upgraded laptops (you can upgrade the ram modules and if your dvd drive burns, why should the warranty not pay for that?). The point is, if you don't tell them you opened your laptop to clean the vents, how could they know you damaged the motherboard by ESD when touching it???
