I have the AR 590e which sports a volume button on the left side. when ever i turn the volume up or down it makes a loud/annoying beeping sound. any way to turn that off? ive looked everywhere in vista.

well I have a FZ, I managed to get rid of the beep by going to

    C:\Program Files\sony\VAIO Event Service

then try renaming the file called pi.wav, it may not be at the same place on the AR, this is the the only way I have managed to get rid of the beep.

I didn't use the mod myself, but pi.wav is there on the SZ6 . . . at least, I see it on mine. ;)

    YEAH!
    really pisses me off!
one thing u could do is go to C:\Program Files and type 'pi' in the search box
then scroll thru the search results till you see a 'wave sound' file named 'pi'
but remember once you do this u will have to mute the PC beep or else when u press certain hotkeys u will hear that loud screeching MSDOS era PC beep. trust be this is far more annoying and irritating! the noise could almost take your head off! feel me!

Deleting the pi.wav file did the trick for me to stop the volume beeping on the Sony Vaio VGN-AR870.

    In Windows Explorer, go to:

    Computer > C: > Program Files > Sony > VAIO Event Service

    find "pi.wav"

Right click on it, and click Delete. Yes to "Are you Sure"

Worked for me and I didn't have to make any other adjustments for hotkey noises. All quiet now.

Why not just rename the file instead of deleting it? You may need it later.

If you have Windows Vista 64 bit, it is in the x86 Programs folder. Not the regular Programs folder.
