    Hi everybody,

I know this problem is quite common but I just could not get multimedia keys and volume keys to work (the ones above the F keys, next to the power button)

I have just upgraded my VGN-CS11S/Q to Windows 7 - 64 Bit. I have updated the FEPD driver via windows update, and installed the utilities in following order:

    Sony Shared Library
    [reboot]
    Vaio Event Service
    [reboot]
    Setting Utility Series
    [reboot]
    [reboot]
    [reboot] :)

but no luck. Than, I have reformatted the system (actually, I have restored the image file, but is was a clean installation without any utils / drivers anyway) and installed the utilities in another order as follows:

    Vaio Event Service
    [reboot]
    Sony Shared Library
    [reboot]
    Setting Utilitiy Series
    [reboot]

still no luck. FN keys does work, and little OSD screen comes up as well when I use FN + volume up - volume down keys. But multimedia keys and volume keys (which is the one with lights) insisting on not working. Any solutions?

Thanks a lot for the info Hamud, I did as described but not worked. I think I will restore from the image again and install the utilities in the order you described. By the way, my windows 7 is 64 bit, is there any difference for the utility / service files for x86 and x64 systems?

no all these files for both 32/64

to install the first file do this :
    1-right click on .inf file

    2-click install

and then install 2-3-4 in the same order

Btw what is your model ?? and bios version ?

About the first file, I have tried that but it returns: "The INF file you tried to install does not support this installation method". so I have installed it via device manager.

My laptop is: Vaio VGN-CS11S/Q and my bios version is: R0290Q2. I have just updated it to the most recent version in order to have VT-x support.

Do you think that it would worth to try restoring from a clean installation image, because I have tried to install the utilities in given order but still no luck.

    Hi again,

I have restored the win from image file, installed the necessary drivers / utilities in following order:

    GPU driver
Non-Raid driver and SATA driver patch
    Sony Shared Library
    Setting Utility Series
    Vaio Event Service
    Vaio Control Center

All other drivers are either are not necessary, since Win 7 is automatically recognizing them or I could not find them from Vaio Support pages (such as ISB utility, HDD protection drive etc.)

but still shiny lights aren't up.

    back again ,
i just realized that for Cs model you need to update your VGA driver to this
    http://download.sony-asia.com.edgesuite.net/vaio/downloads/355003/EP0000208301.exe

and your Audio Driver for this one
    ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/WIN7UPGRADE/7UPG_AUDIO_DRIVER_REALTEK_6.0A - 6.0.1.5886.ZIP

and then install reinstall these files :

    16. Sony Shared Library / Installed

    17. Setting Utility Series / Installed

    18. VAIO Event Service / Installed

thanks a lot for your efforts, I am going to try this in the morning and post back the results. It is really a pity to have to go all through these painfull process for such simple thing. Sony really should find a solution for that.

Done that as well, still no response. I give up, I will use the laptop without it. It is really a shame since Sony claims that my model is fully compatible with Windows 7, I wonder how the understand the consept of being "Fully compatible"... Thanks to everybody who tried to help, especially to you Hamud.

what kind of problems did you had so far? I have my processor fan changed once, since it was making some weird noise. Now the gpu fan doing the same thing, it needs to change. I am waiting for the warranty period to finish, than I will disassamble the laptop and change the fans myself with a quality one. And you can add the multimedia keys problem. I was going to get an Acer Aspire instead of this one, guy on the computer shop tricked me. I have an old Aspire on my home, did not create even a slight problem yet.

I think I will go for an Aspire or Dell next time...

Poor quality control especially the fan. Believe it or not, the CS is a failed product. The only thing i like in CS like other VAIOs is its paint (especially the word VAIO on its lid). nothing else. I think its better not to disassemble your CS, read this. check sony's website in your respective region.

Im here at my home country for the holidays. Last week, we bought the pink VAIO CW for my sister. All I can say is the CW have made me forget Sony releasing the CS. Ive finished a clean install of win7 on the CW, everything is working great. If only my sister is willing to swap her CW to my boring looking lenovo.

    Hello.

In case you've not solved this problem, try to install the Synaptics Touchpad drivers.

I spent one weekend testing different driver install "modes" (order of install, driver version, etc), I gave up on this. One week later, being forced to install the touchpad drivers because the W7 one doesn't provide scroll, the touch buttons came to life.

Note: The W7 section on the download page from Vaio does not have drivers for the touchpad. I used the ones from the Originally Installed section (aka vista).

I don't know if you guys resolved it or not. My friend have a VGN-CS36GJ and I got the slider working in windows 7.
You can either download the driver from the sony website or do as i did for a friend

I recovered his whole pc using the recovery disk (recover whole system menu) . It should then be in Vista with everything clean and new, plus everything working. Then you just choose "upgrade" to windows 7 instead of using "custom"

You'll then only have to install the wifi driver.
    That should get in working.

Reading this has surely halted my Windows 7 upgrade plans on my CS17G.

I am planning to do a clean install & have downloaded the drivers from Sony Asia Pacific Website.

What else should I do to take of such issues?
