    Hi,

I've searched the whole forum with my issue but haven't been able to find a resolution for my problem.
Maybe I didn't use the right keywords so if the answer is on the forum please show me.

I recently bought a Sony Vaio Ar810E and did a clean install of Windows Vista. Since this install my on screen volume control indicator isn't visible anymore?

My volume button works, but when I had the pre-installed software on the notebook it showed an inidcator and you heard a sound when turning up and down the volume.

Can anybody tell me how to get this function/indicator back.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
if you're talking about Vista 32bit you should get everything working. (AFAIK Sony does not provide all drivers+tools for Vista64 yet, especially for AR models)

    Get those files from http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNAR810E

I have an older AR model and this is my recommended installation order:

    1. SFEP (Sony Firmware Extension Parser) driver, via Device Manager "Unknown Device"
    2. Sony Shared Library
    3. VAIO Event Service (from Sony Notebook Utilities)

Your mentioned pop-up indicator + beep plus some special keys like eject, Fn+Brightness (graphics driver required) should work by now.

Additional tools are optional - I only recommend installing what you really need – it'll bloat up your OS
e.g. Setting Utility Series (tool for various settings like special key setup etc.), AppMon is just for switching logo lamp ...

The vanishing indicator is an odd one...
It may be related to your antivirus (had some problems with Kapersky once, not on my SZ though)
It may also be a registry bug, or the simplest:
The "show in taskbar" box somewhere under the Audio Controls is unchecked.
If you can, check the sound-sheme with someone - the "beep" may be Vaio specific, I don't think my Medion had it.
